Update...This needs something Star of Wonder Card

2 Attachment(s)
OK....I am starting early this year and I purchased this set to do Christmas Cards for my best friend but am getting stuck. I want to stay with this set and the Baroque Burgundy - as I want to use that up. Otherwise - I am up for suggestions. I like this card somewhat - but feel it just NEEDS something else or something different. Do you have any thoughts? I tried stamping the image in gold and silver and even copper - but the image isn't clear with the thicker ink. You can barely make out what it is and embossing it was even worse.

Please - any and all suggestions welcome. I am currently using the star of wonder set with baroque burgundy, sahara sand and artichoke paper and the brushed gold as accents.

Update: OK, I've changed the card. Changed Sahara Sand to Vellum - attaching in the corner with a gold star eyelet and embossed the saying in gold on the artichoke. What do you guys think now? I think the vellum needs torn a little straighter, but other than that......what do you think

Perhaps some organdy ribbon or a background stamp using Versamark on the Burgundy would add a little something.

For the stamped image I would use Whisper White or Very Vanilla paper instead of the Sharara Sand. It will give you a little more contrast. It might make the stamped image stand out a little more especially where there is lighter shading on the stamped image. You could then layer it in the Artichoke. To me you need something to tie your image to the saying from a color perspective. I also think the words get a little lost using artichoke ink on artichoke paper. What about black or embossed gold or copper.

Just my thoughts.

I'd try something in a pale yellow shade

instead of the sahara sand. Maybe add a little sparkle to the words with Pearl Ex. I sure am glad I'm not the only one having the "it needs something" problem tonight. I'm setting mine aside until tomorrow or I'll be up all night.

This happens to me all the time. Try taking a shower or a nap. Sometimes when I walk away the ideas start flowing.

I agree with all these suggestions. Another thing you may try is flipping the card around and putting the camel on top and the words underneath though perhaps off center a bit. It may balance it a bit.

Let us know what you come up with.

I would turn your cardstock to be an open from the side card instead of opening from the bottom. This would give you more room and the two would not need to overlap. I agree that the embossing might stand out more on white matted on the artichoke. I haven't been too pleased with that Sahara sand in anything I've tried it on for my personal use. I was disappointed in how it looked with other colors.JMO

Possibly a charm such as a cross or maybe some brads in the blank areas. I am really getting into using brads here. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi, I think you have a great start, but a few suggestions for you. :)

I would change the saying, so it is in a different color, I think you are losing the saying with the tone on tone. Try embossing just that in a gold or silver? And then maybe carry your "star" theme to the empty part of your card, attach the corners of the title with some star brads or put a few in the bottom corner? It would not be too much to distract from the images and saying but I think the extra touches of coordinating gold or silver star brads to match the color you emboss the wording in would be very pretty.
You may also want to try fraying the edges of the phrase square-with your finger nail- to carry thru the theme of your ripped edge on the image portion?

Well, let us know how it turns out!! Good luck & have fun!!

I love this set. Used it last year for my cards & did navy/copper. I LOVE your revision. That glitz of gold just makes the whole "Light" theme pop. Love the star eyelet, too.

Any body else have opinions on the revision? I would like to get these done early this year. I have a bunch others I still have to make as well as 2 swaps for different meetings and things. I know it sounds early -but I have several days off right now - and jsut want to get it out of the way.

Thanks.

I love the revision it is beautiful go with it. Perfect.

showmestamper 07-25-2005 04:49 AM

I think the revised version looks great...so much more pop and wow than the first. The only thing I would do is layer the whole cardfront onto the green or the gold...this would frame it. Good for you for doing this now!

If you still don't think it has that finished look, how about some cording or some of ribbon on the folded edge. Otherwise I think they nice ans simple as is.

I like the embossed saying better, and I think I would put black behind it so it pops more.

tesno 07-25-2005 05:36 AM

Perhaps some gold cord wrapped around the top of the card would help to bring out the gold accents.

khitchcock 07-25-2005 07:08 AM

Hi, great improvements, I like where you put the star! You could also try like someone else mentioned, layering the whole card on another color (maybe the green) so it pops a little more, and also maybe anchor the saying with some gold cording in opposite corners of the saying's square, and tie with a simple knot?

Let us know if you change anything!

jkincolorado 07-25-2005 08:29 AM

I liked the original, but I like the revision better :D I'm an embossing freak, and I love the gold embossed saying--very classy! I also love, love, LOVE the star holding the vellum. Very impressed you are so organized to be starting Christmas cards in the heat of July--good for you! :D

Stampingpat 07-28-2005 12:55 PM

The revised one is definately much better!!!
