I haven't been around much as I'm really into my genealogy research, getting my DNA testing and I've been having some health issues as well. That said, I've been doodling my own coloring sheets lately and using one or two lines from scripture, hymns, and some friend poems, like these ones below --
What a friend we have in Jesus. . . ---------------------- Friendship is a Miracle By Jon Gilbert
Great miracles still happen In this day and age, it's true, And I thank God for the miracle Of friendship shared with you. ---------------------- There is no friend like an old friend Who has shared our morning days, No greeting like his welcome, No homage like his praise. Fame is the scentless sunflower, With gaudy crown of gold; But friendship is the breathing rose With sweets in every fold. ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes. ---------------------------------- True Friendships By Ruth Cramer
True friendships are like flowers rare We find along the way; We cherish them with loving care And tend them day-by-day.
Deep in our hearts we hold them fast-- Their beauty never wanes, And long-- as long as life shall last, Their fragrance still remains. ------------------------------- To Have a Friend Like You By Jon Gilbert
Our friendship is a Golden Chain We've forged down through the years That has bound us close together, Because of joy and tears!
And as the chain's grown, link by link, One fact stands clear and true; There is no greater joy than just To have a friend like you. ------------------------------- When troubles come your soul to try, You love the friend who just stands by. --------------------------- Jesus said, "I have called you friends." ~ John 15:15 -------------------------- True Friendship Never Ends By Phyllis Robbins
Books and songs and poems have ends But never the love Between good friends. --------------------------- When good friends walk beside us. . . On the trails that we must keep. . . Our burdens seem less heavy. . . And the hills are not so steep The weary miles pass swiftly. . . Taken in joyous stride. . . And all the world seems brighter. . . When friends walk by our side. ----------------------------------- God knew we could not get along If each one walked alone, And no one gave a passing thought To troubles not his own;
And so, to help us on our way Until the journey ends, He gave us, out of his great love, The cherished gift of friends. ---------------------------------- "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." ~ Numbers 6:24-26
Insomuch as any one pushes you nearer to God, he or she is your friend. ----------------------------------- He Cares For Us By Maryann V. Shue
If God can clothe the flowers gay And feed the little bird, How can we doubt He loves us Or that our prayers are heard?
If God can hold the waves in check Within the raging sea, How can we doubt that He can keep His loved ones -- you and me?
Nature reveals God's love and power In rich abundant measure. We cannot doubt His tender care For us -- His special treasure! --------------------------- Of all the lovely gifts life sends One of the best is treasured friends-- Friends who are near each golden day; Friends who stand by when skies are gray;
Friends who rejoice in our success, And share our hours of loneliness; Friends who are loyal and true-blue; In other words, such friends as -- YOU!
I've been assigned some homework by a therapist - making a Positivity Journal this year. I'm looking for 4 line poems, sayings, scripture verses and quotes to add to my journal along the lines of post #372 (Accentuate the Positive song by Patti Page) which has already been noted. My base is a composition notebook in the planner format and is decorated with card flip-outs from family and friends, digital stamps, doodles, food packaging, stamps, stencils, washi tape, etc. I've composed monthly videos at YouTube and am sharing what I find on my Gratitude Blog here.
Hope you have some good nuggets to share with me, as well as my readers of this thread! We all could use some good in this sometimes negative world. Thanks!
Here is a poem that I often use in my card-making .... it's one that goes well when my card features a bird image.
Said the Robin to the Sparrow:
"I should really like to know
Why these anxious human beings
Rush about and worry so."
Said the Sparrow to the Robin:
"Friend, I think that it must be,
That they have no Heavenly Father,
Such as cares for you and me."

I was reading a website that mentioned sending letters/cards to prisoners today. I personally believe that time-out shouldn't be fun, but if you want to send cards or letters to prisoners as a witnessing tool, just be aware their snail mail (no internet) is reviewed by prison staff, so there should be nothing in it suggestive that could be misconstrued as code or sexual in nature and attachments such as brads that could be used as a weapon are automatically rejected. Card should be single layer, and stamped/colored with permanent inks. Here are some other regulations - http://www.prisonpro.com/content/sen...-you-need-know

"Garden Hearts." By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Kind hearts are the gardens. Kind thoughts are the roots. Kind words are the flowers. Take care of the gardens, and Keep them from weeds. Fill them with flowers, Kind Words and kind Deeds.
A Christmas Poem by Helen Steiner Rice I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book And every year when Christmas comes, I go and take a look, And that is when I realize that these names are a part Not of the book they are written in, but really from my heart For each name stands for someone who has cossed my path sometime, And in the meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim, I really feel that I'm composed of each remembered name And while you may not be aware of any special link Just meeting you has changed my life a lot more than you think For once I've met somebody, the years cannot erase The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine Of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between, For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you, It is because you're on the list that I'm indebted to For I am but a total of the many folks I've met, And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget And whether I have known you for many years or few, In some ways you have a part in shaping things I do And every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew, The best gifts life can offer is meeting folks like you. And may the spirit of Christmas that forever endures Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours.
Love Letters
By Victor Young and Edward Heyman.
Sung by Patti Page, 1963.
Love letters straight from your heart
Keep us so near while apart.
I'm not alone in the night
When I can have all the love you write.
I memorize every line;
I kiss the name that you sign.
And Darling, then I read again
Right from the start
Love letters straight from your heart.(repeat last 3 lines).
I've been looking through my old 3 ring binders of Scrapbooking papers for humorous sayings for my farm animal art journaling pages and discovered that this website is still going strong = Denny Davis = Poems and Quotes for Scrapbookers (dennydavis.net)
So if you don't find what you are looking for here, check out this website!
When I was a teenager, I was given an autograph book for Christmas one year. Since then I've been fascinated with autograph verses. Have any of you scribbled one in a friend's yearbook at the end of a school year like this one?
Do you carrot all for me?
My heart beets for you,
With your turnip nose,
And your radish nose.
You are a peach,
If we cantaloupe,
Lettuce marry—
Weed make a swell pear..
I've been looking for sayings similar to this one to use on my art journaled dolls. Their dresses will be food labels. My girlfriend sent me one -- Be a Fruit Loop in a World of Cheerios. I wondered if you all had something similar?
I resurrected my Flickr account to post some of my paper art dolls. I have some of the rubber stamped atc's posted in my gallery here, but the art journal pages and coloring sheets are on Flickr.
Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread! Please feel free to add your favorite card making and scrapbooking poems to it. Bazaar craft poems seem to be especially popular.
A YouTube friend told me about this song. I had never heard of it before. She created one journal page of doodled houses and then added part of this song to the opposite page. If you want to hear the song, you can find it on YouTube. It's cute!
Little Boxes
Songwriter: Malvina Reynolds. 1962.
Sung by Pete Seeger in 1963
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there's doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
Just want to thank you for sharing the wonderful scriptures & encouraging verses! I remember finding a couple of newspaper clippings of very special verses amongst my Daddy's belongings. Made me weep, but I felt as if he were right there with me for a moment.
When I'm a little old lady
I'll live with my children and bring them great joy,
To repay all I've had from each girl and boy.
I shall draw on the walls and scuff up the floor;
Run in and out without closing the door.
I'll hide frogs in the pantry, socks under my bed,
Whenever they scold me, I'll just hang my head.
I'll run and I'll romp, always fritter away
The time to be spent doing chores everyday.
I'll pester my children when they're on the phone,
As long as they're busy, I won't leave them alone.
Hide candy in closets, rocks in a drawer,
And never pick up my clothes from the floor.
Dash off to the movies and not wash a dish,
I'll plead for allowance whenever I wish.
I'll stuff up the plumbing and deluge the floor,
As soon as they've mopped it, I'll flood it some more.
When they correct me, I'll lie down and cry
Kicking and screaming, not a tear in my eye.
I'll take all their pencils and flashlights, and then
When they buy new ones, I'll take them again.
I'll spill glasses of milk to complete every meal,
Eat my banana and just drop the peel,
Put toys on the table, spill jam on the floor,
I'll break lots of dishes as though I were four.
What fun I shall have, what joy it will be,
To live with my children, like they lived WITH ME!
