Default Would you like this as a gift?

If you were a lactation consultant would you like to receive note cards with babynurseabella?

My first reaction would be NO because the baby has a binky. Using pacis is generally a big nono when establishing a nursing relationship.

Other than the binky, yes, it's a cute image for a lactation consultant

personally, i don't think anyone would be that put off by the pacifier. it's just a general baby image and i think she would probably be appreciative to recieve something from you!

I don't think most people realize how put off the nursing community is by the vast majority of baby images including either a bottle or a paci. Not trying to start anything, I'm just saying that many nursing advocates find those images annoying, if not downright offensive.

I'm afraid that I would have to agree with Phunkymamma. The breast feeding promoters are quite radical in their opinion of bottles and binkies. I work in NICU and a mother was brainwashed (IMHO)that the baby should have NO ARTIFICAL TEATS!! So the baby should be tube fed rather than get a bottle because the Mom could only be at the hospital for 1-2 feeds per day!!

My lactation consultant and I have become great friends. She's more like a mom than anything else. She is lying in wait for my second baby as the first stopped nursing over a year ago - he's three now. However, she loves her job and I really want to make her something. I know she gets tired of all the bottle images, but I've never heard her say anything again the pacifier. My son didn't use one so maybe I missed it.

From my experience....People love recieving hand made items. I dont think anyone would be remotely offended that the baby image has a paci.

Default would you like

JMTC---but if the binky offends, just use a spotlight technique and make sure the part you spotlight covers the binky when you mat it-----that way everyone is happy.

For those of you who don't think it's appropriate, can you suggest a different image?

When I initially read your post and then read the responses, I thought a baby with a binky......no big deal. Then I re-read your post and since your friend is a lactation specialist, her main job is to help mom and baby with any breastfeeding problems. An introduction of a binky and bottle before good breastfeeding has been established is IMO a big no-no. After a few months, going from binky or bottle to breast is not a big deal(from my experience).

I just remembered SU has a retired one: Sketches Index Card - Sketches by galleryindex at Splitcoaststampers

The only thing I don't like about this stamp is the mom doesn't have any eyes, etc. A little funky to me.

Why not just make her monogram notecards so not to offend anyone with any mother/caretaker-like or baby images??? Then this way it is made specifically (especially) for her. You can also make her a matching clipboard with her initial on it and a beaded pen - I have not been in the hospital since forever, but I think nurses still use clipboards, don't they?

Just my two cents...

She doesn't work in the hospital. She comes to your house to help you "fix" things. She's been known to squeeze mama's and babies in on the weekends, evenings, days off, and at the crack of dawn. She is awesome and I really want to make something that helps her celebrate helping the babies.

What about using the Stamping Bella and putting a bold red "x" on the paci...more of a humorus touch?

I still think a monogram gift is the way to go...she can use the clipboard with matching pen to bring with her to the appointments - then she can walk around with a special gift in hand. I am sure she usually writes down a report after seeing her patients. I am sure while she loves to work with the families, a monogram gift celebrates her - a gift that is special and unique to her.

I did a quick search on nurse or medical stamps and found nothing really appropriate. The stamping bella with the baby, I think, would be ok to use since you have your mind set on making her something with a nurse/baby image...I am sure she will take no offense at all to the bella image besides people always appreciate anything handmade. ;)

I think the image is fine. She will appreciate any gesture of friendship. I breastfed both of my kids past their first year, and yet they were given pacis at the hospital by the nurses shortly after birth, no harm done...

I think you are a darling person for thinking so hard to give her the perfect card - what a sweetie! I breastfeed my children as well but one thing to keep in mind, so that you dont get the idea that this is not an appropriate image, is that even nursing moms sometimes have to give bottles, too. I know I had to pump on more than one occasion and leave my husband and newborn with some milk when my father was having chemotherapy and at the hospital from dawn to dusk. It's not the end of the earth if an image has a paci imho and know she will love the IDEA that you thought of her!
