Need an adhesive that will hold ...
 

Hi Everyone,
I have been making several of the covered journals. On many I have left the black binding along the side but on some I have been wanting to cover the black binding to match but I have not been able to get the cardstock to stick over time. It looks great for a while but if left out with nothing stacked on top of it, the cardstock pops right back up. I have been using monoadhesive but I am finding (like many of you stated in another thread) that it is just not as tacky as it used to be. I am using the permanent type from Viking. I was just wondering if you have found anything stronger to hold down the cardstock along the binding. I really didn't want to use anything liquid that would ooze out the edges (like Crystal Effects) I am making several so I need something that is very cheap and easy to apply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have sewn my recent ones down, and that works great. If you have the Oct. Papercrafts, look in there for the directions and an example. :lol:

Try SU new sticky tape. YOu can also get other widths at the various crafter stores. This stuff will hold anything. (it's the same tacky tape used for your beaded pens.)

I like using the Xyron....

Tacky tape works the best! I found it to be pretty cheap at Hobby Lobby

red tape from Michaels is awesome. I think it is much like the new tape that SU carries...

Sewing binding down.... Do you sew just to the paper or to the book itself?

I put paper on both sides and tack it down with mono, and then I put wide ribbon over the binding and glue it down with tacky glue concentrating on the glue where the ribbon will hit the card stock and not so much caring if the glue is on the spine, just like a jacket over a hard cover book not glued to the spine

I would suggest watered down Yes! glue. This is what I have seen altered book artists use. It needs to be thinned with warm water but not so wet your paper will warp.

I use something called Scrappy glue. It is expensive, but it lasts a long time. It is great! I use it for holding beads and wire in place as well. It is white but dries clear.

I just recently made a matboard scrapbook and guest book for my in-law's 40th anniversary and I used the new Sticky Strip tape that SU! is selling and it works great. Even after almost a month with all the guests at the party looking though them and me taking it to workshops to show, it has not come apart at all.

I previously used the permanent monoadhesive and it did not stay at all.

Carpet Tape
 

For many projects that require an industrial type hold, I use Carpet Tape by 3M, purchased wherever it is on sale or at Home Depot. Good Luck.

I just made a few with fabric on the binding. I went to Joann's & found some inexpensive fabric in the bins of leftover pieces. It worked great & only cost about $.50 for about 1/4 yard, so now I have more for later. One word of advice however, the adhesive from the Xyron doesn't stick very well to the material, so I used glue dots & wrapped the fabric inside the book then put cardstock over it on the inside cover.
