My HONEY is leaving early:)
Hello, my name is Carrie Feliciano and I new the whole "Post a new Thread" thing. So here goes. I live in Bremerton, Washington with my three children and wonderful husband who is is in the Navy. Well with all that is going on in the world right now, the carrier he is on is leaving three weeks earlier than expected. There are over 3,000 men and women aboard this boat and more to be picked up, as the squadron is in another state. So needless to say there are going to about 5,000 sailors on board. So I thought I would get a bunch of shoe boxes filled with all kinds of different cards together for my husband to pass around the boat. Where they are going overseas is unknown but what I do know is that they do not have a great selection of cards on the boat and will not be pulling into ports very often to get cards. I thought this was a great idea for them to access to an array of many differernt cards they could send home to loved ones for the next seven months. So what I am asking of all you fine women out there is that if you have any extra swaps or card fronts you are willing to part with, I will catagorize them and put backs on them so I can get those out to all the sailors. Occasion cards are wonderful since they are going to be missing almost six holidays. Thanks so much for your time and you can mail them to Carrie Feliciano 24D Wencker Way Bremerton, WA 98312. Thanks again for your support, I thank you and so does the USS John C Stennis.

Hello Carrie...
I'm over here on the other side of Puget Sound.
Will send you some of my swap cards as I have too many. I will put each one, with an envelope into a sandwich zip-lock bag. I just read that suggestion in Keri's thread over here.... Cards for Troops.
Will try to get to this immediately after Christmas. Could you give us a deadline?

Miss Carrie-
I'm sorry your husband is going to be gone, and leaving early at that. My hubby is a US Marine, BTDT and got the coffee mug.
HOWEVER... I really think you need to be more aware of OPSEC and what you post on the internet. Like you said, it's not just your husband on this ship.
http://www.defendamerica.mil/articles/a021202b.html
Please, for the sake of the other 5,000+ service members and their families, watch what you say!

Dont worry!
someone had posted that I need to watch what I say on the internet about my husbands boat. Just so you all now I am not putting anyone in harms way. My husband has been in the Navy for 14 years. And I know what to say and what not to say. I also never gave a date of when the boat is delpoying. or even where it is going. Please know that I am not doing anything wrong by posting on here asking for donations, I do have the "OK". Thanks again. Carrie

Carrie,
Honestly, you concerned me a little bit too. I think it's wonderful that you asked for cards and such. But, you probably don't need to post the amount of sailors that will be on the boat and the fact that they will be leaving early. It may not be classified information, but it is still privileged. It would be okay to share some types of information like that with some friends and family, possibly. But posting it on a message board like this is different. I held a top secret security clearance in the air force with AWACS....so, I do kind of know what I'm talking about. It can be very dangerous. So, please think about the way that you word things.

Carrie, I'll go through my cards and pick some out to send you in a week or two. When do you need them by? My brother was on the Lincoln, but it was before I was a stamper. Hope your hubby had a safe deployment!

I'll definitely send some cards and envies your way! Thanks for letting us know about this and for giving us an opportunity to help our servicemen.
Would it be okay to post this in my blog?

I think it's awesome that you are putting together cards for the ship but I have to agree that maybe putting departure dates and the name of the ship isn't the best idea. I immediately thought of that old adage, "loose lips sink ships"...an oldie but goodie, I guess. But I know that your intentions are just great and you didn't intend to start any fireworks so please know that as a retired Navy nurse (and spouse of a retired Navy pilot!) I have been there and done that on both sides of the deployment cycle and I am sure the ship's company will very much appreciate the cards. And any of you sending the cards, don't forget that invitation size envies are hard to come back out there on the BGB (that's high security Navy pilot code for "big grey boat") and envies would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks for the advice everyone!!!
If you would like to send cards great but if you are going to call me names and post obnoxious and rude comments please refrain from posting anything at all. I really do appreciate all the help you guys are doing for me and the service members, but I am getting really upset at people telling what they used to be in the military and trying to telling what I have said is wrong. I have gotten permission to post this and the words were approved. So please if you don't have anything nice to say please don't say anything at all. The departure dates were never mention and the name of the boat doesn't really matter. The boats name and dates have been on the local and national news. Carrie

Carrie, I sooooo feel your pain... DH is a Navy Chief (in for 13 years now). I think what you are doing is awesome for the crew and do not think you have done anything wrong.
Please try not to take it "personally" when people post what they have done or what they know... Most of it is done with good intentions.
Good luck with your card project and with the deployment.

Here's a way to help out our Armed Service Personnel and their families. I know that many folks work at the USO(my brother does in Saint Louis at Lambert Field) or do other volunteer things for the military or maybe you volunteer for other charitable organizations...I do....but I wanted to help out in some small way, the military families. I know I personally can't put an end to violence in the world or social unrest or cure hunger or poverty. But I can do a little bit today to try to help someone. So,.....I sent the card fronts hanging out in my craft room to Carrie.
So maybe you can do something similar. Send card fronts to Carrie, or to Ronald McDonald House volunteers, or an area nursing home, or to a local church project.
So just for today do something to make somebody smile, for just a few minutes. Sometimes that's all you can do.
Have a great day everyone!

I need the bulk of them by the end of January, but if you get anymore during the next eight months, I could always use more. I will be sending care packages out twice a month so yo can send the card fronts, swaps or cards anytime. The kinds of cards or card fronts, old/discountinued swaps needed are: Valentines, Day, St Patty's, Mother's Day, Father's Day,Easter, 4th of July, Missing you, Love you, Just because, thinking of you, sympathy, birthday. You name it they could use it. I will be putting the backs on all the crad fronts and swaps if they are not backed, so please send what you have. Thanks for all the help. Carrie

Okay everyone, I am still in need of more cards for the servicemen and women. I have had a GREAT response, but I still need more. I had one person mail me 2 cards and then someone mailed me 400. But like I said in my first POST their are several thousand men and women on this boat. Come on gals I know most of you have tons of swaps and card fronts that you are hanging on to for "A RAINY DAY", well "IT"S POORING RAIN" here in Washington and the sailors need your help. Carrie

As I was organizing my stamp room earlier this evening, I sorted through my swap cards and extra cards. They're in a large envelope, all ready for my dh to mail, but it will probably be payday (Fri) or the next day before he mails them out. Hope that helps!

People are asking what kind of cards I need, so here a list of cards that I am in desperate need of. Get Well, Sypmpathy, Good Luck, Congratulations, You make me happy, Your my favorite, Happiness, Anniversay, St Patty's, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day 4th of July. Most of the blank cards I have been getting I have been going through and just adding sentiments myself. I have catagorized them all for my husband so it is easier on him and the other sailors to look through. Remember there are women and men on this boat, so feminine and masculine cards are both need. Children cards would be great too, I know my husband would like to send the kids cards too and I am sure there are mom's on the boat that would wnat to send cards back to their little ones also. Thanks for everything and anything you can do to help. God Bless. Carrie
