My First Project

So I've decided to try my hand at the Nugget Tins for Valentine's day (I think they are super cute! :-D ), but when I went to the local craft store, they were like $3 each for the tins. Is there a more cost effective way to make these?

Your gentleman is very handsome! Welcome to the board!

Is there something else you could use? Sometimes at Walmart they have gift card tins (they're thicker because they have an insert). I think they're about 99 cents. Maybe you could alter those.

I just snooped around the board a bit and found a few links to specialtybottle.com. They have the tins for about a dollar a peice ! Does anyone have any experience with them? I'm sort of new to ordering things online.

I personally haven't, but I believe quite a few people here have. You could probably do a search and find some threads about their experiences.

Good luck!

I do have experience ordering with them. I have ordered with them a few times now and I really like them. Considering the cost of the tins or bottles or whatever you are ordering I could consider the shipping kinda steep to where i live, but you have to remember that the items they ship are pretty heavy if you order several. In general if you are going to order I think the more you order it justifies the shipping cost. HTH

I had an order in with them a year or so ago and it turns out the tins were on backorder for so long (they extended the backorder time from what they told me originally) that I cancelled my order. So...if you need them by a certain time, maybe see if you can have some direct communication with someone at the company to make sure that you'll get them when you want them.

As an alternative, I believe there are quite a number of downloads/templates for nugget boxes here on SCS that you can make from quality card stock (like this one). They might not be quite a durable, but they would be a heck of a lot cheaper.

If you're really set on the metal/aluminum version, papertrey and GinaK both have some hinged tins that are slightly cheaper.

Windycitystamper, you brought up a good point about those tins being on backorder. I just called and luckily they told me that in 07 those tins became so popular overnight that they went from hardly selling any to not being able to keep up with the demand.

The nice girl there explained to me that the "nugget sensation" caused this (hehe). She tells me not to worry because ever since then they keep more than enough on hand!! !! Oh Purpleflowers, I also saw papertreys tins and they are actually more. I think I'm gonna place an order with Specialty Bottle pretty soon ! I'll post here to let everyone know how it goes! I hope everything works out I get real nervous about purchasing things online.

You'll be a webstore shop-a-holic before you know it, we all are! LOL. I think everyone gets nervous trying something for the first time, but online shopping has become the new way to shop and it's just as easy and safe as shopping anywhere else. Especially if you purchase with a credit card, where you will be protected in case something goes wrong. Online stores (alot of them have brick and morter counterparts as well) have to abide by many of the same laws and the BBB just like regular stores do, and in order to keep customers coming back , they have to be competitive.
Good luck!

Good to know...'07 is exactly when I got caught in the backorder situation!

ScrapAttack 01-26-2009 01:00 PM

So I got my package today. No delays, everything showed up all nicely packed. I bought 48 (I figure its better to order more now, since I'm bound to mess up at least 10 times. I have no eye-hand coordination! ) and the shipping was less than $15.

I'm gonna go get started on my valentines boxes now!

stampnkat7 02-19-2009 02:44 PM

I've been getting the nugget tins from specialtybottle for a couple of years myself. aside from the 'nugget sensation' (as scrapattack called it) i've never had any delays with backorders or anything.

blueslady 02-19-2009 03:39 PM

Hi- I found the shipping from specialty bottle to be so high that I looked for an alternate source. I ordered the tins from www.papermart.com. Low price and cheaper shipping.

stampnkat7 02-20-2009 07:50 AM

i've found if i order in larger quantities it offsets the shipping. plus, i get a lot of my other containers there and i like not having to order from multiple sources.
