Default Poly Shrink Sealant?

I stamped on my Poly Shrink with StazON. I then colored it in with Sharpie markers. I punched holes and then shrunk in my toaster oven. We sealed them with clear finger nail polish after they had cooled (as I had read to do on SCS). I had two problems with it that I need your help with.

1.)When using the finger nail polish to seal it it sometimes made the image bleed. Why?

2.) The image eventually wore off. Is this usual?

I am trying to make jewelry for gifts and want them to last. What am I doing wrong?

I stamp with either the Staz-On or the Memories ink pads, then I shrink it. Then I color with colored pencils. I don't seal with anything. I like the way the colored pencils look better then the Sharpies. I have no problems with anything I have made this way. Hope this helps a little.

I use clear finger nail polish all the time when I seal my poly shrink but I have have never had either of those things happen. I either stamp with craft ink or use staz-on and color with watercolor pencils and then shrink it with my heat gun. I don't think that would make any difference though. Sorry, I can't be of more help. Have you tried sealing them with Crystal Effects? That might work better for you.

I use SU! Glassy Glaze Enamel. If you don't have the enamel I would suggest Crystal Effects. Did you sand the PolyShrink before you stamped?

If she used Staz-on she should not have to sand first - mine had not bled or rubbed off - but I did not seal mine.

Perhaps something in the nail polish (I'm thinking the acetone) is acting like a remover would....hmm....

I would think that if you are adding all your colors before shrinking you may not need to seal.

I lightly sand the polyshrink before I stamp w/ staz on and then color w/ colored pencils and then shrink. I haven't had any need for sealant.

Even with Stazon, if I don't sand then I have to seal with crystal effects or it will scratch off. I haven't noticed that happening if I sand first though. I hadn't thought to use the Glassy Glaze, I'll try that next time!

I did sand before I stamped. Maybe I need a different type of polish. The one I have been using is a clear nail hardener & strengthener.
