Default Struggling to use a stamp set

Does anyone else have this problem?

I buy a stamp set that I absolutely LOVE, then play around with it but just can't make it work for me. :( I'll check the gallery here, and while there may be a few cards I like, nothing really fits my style. I pull out my card sketch notebook, try a few things, and still nothing I like. I'm tempted to just take these sets and sell them! But I love the images and want to keep them to look at, even if I can't use them!

I think ultimately there's a difference between what I love (which is lots of things!) and what my real creative style is (a narrower range of things...).

Am I alone, or are others as confused as I am?

Why don't you look in the color change thread and stech challange thread. maybe changing colors or finding a new layout might help. I know it helped me!! Hope that helps!

My suggestion would be to put it down for a while and come back to it when you feel a little more creative. There is a reason why we buy these stamps. I know I'm sorry I ever sold most of the retired and favorite PSX stamps I use to own. Think real hard about it.

Hang onto them, for sure...I think we all have moments like this (not to lessen the importance of what you're feeling right now!)

Maybe try checking the galleries that have stamps of similar sizes for inspiration...you can always substitute the ones you have on hand and create a similar look. I know sometimes I'm drawn to a layout or color combo and then the idea just flows from there.

I go to the challenges. I even make up my own challenges. I also will ask my daughter about the onesI am not so sure about. She is honest but sometimes she can "save" a card.

Thanks for the advice, ladies! I'll hold onto the sets and keep trying. I know I can, I know I can, I know I can...one day it's got to work!

When I have trouble coming up with an idea for a stamp set, the first thing I do is totally CASE the sample from the Idea Book & Catalog. For some reason that will usually get my creative juices flowing. I have been trying the challenges also and those work really well, too! HTH
