Default Is there an easy way to do this.

I want to make a list of all my stamp sets and what is actually in the set. For example a set that has all occasions in it or a set that has images that can be used for lots of differant things.

Example of what I'm talking about is a set like sweet treats it has a cupcake, for a birthday, a popcorn bag used as a trick or treat bag , a bag to make a coffee cup with the handle and steam. the bag can be used as a flower vase. The gumball machine I have seen used as a snowglobe, I think you get the idea.

I have so many sets like this but tend to forget that I have little images or sayings that can go with so many other occasions that you just don't remember what's always in a certain set.

So what do you ladies do to remember what you have in each set.

Do you make a list of what images are in each set. Do you have an album. I started making sheets of paper of all the sets I have and stamped all the images on 1 sheet of paper and keep them all together.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A LIST OF THIS:
Sets that can be used for a baby, other than a set that was orginally a baby set like wild about you, in the wild giraff, the lamb from On the Farm, teddy bear from buttons and bows.etc

Just differant images that can be very versatile.

There's just so many creative minds out there that think out of the box. Where I would never image to use it as something they did.

I haven't done it, but I know some ladies stamp a master sheet with all the images in a set and put them in a binder.
I suppose then you could take it a step further and stamp a sheet with all your baby stamps with a little note stating which set the stamp is from.
Would be a lot of work, but once you had your master sheets all filed it would be a great referance source for you.
I too have stamps I have never used...there was a challenge out a while ago to use stuff you had forgot about...now I need to go make a card!

Interesting that you post this question now, Lisa -- I've been thinkig of adding a page to my inventory spreadsheet that would help me with this.

What I've been pondering is setting up columns by stamp image size, then using consistent category names for the different types of images within those sizes. That way, I could sort the columns by size when I'm looking for something to fill an area on a card. For example, if I need a floral image approx 2" square, I could sort my list for the sets that contain one of those -- then I go to my stamped image 'catalog' (I use 4x6" index cards for this) and look at the sets on the list to see if any of the images will work for what I had in mind. I could do the same for text stamps, geometric shapes (such as the circles in the Big Pieces and Little Pieces sets), whatever categories make sense to me. It would be easy for me to do this because I already have the spreadsheet set up for the sets I have, and I already have the stamp 'catalog' -- I'd just be expanding the spreadsheet a bit.

All of this is of course based on the way I think, and the way I stamp -- but you could certainly do something that works with your own creative and stamping methods. Setting up a system like this from scratch would be pretty time-consuming -- and if you're not a spreadsheet dweeb like me ;) it might not be a productive use of your time.

I hope you'll post again when you've come up with a system that works for you!

Happy trails....

Sue

i have on my list of things to get... red dots to indicate the retired sets.

the other day it occured to me that i might get a couple other colors as well-
for other catagories like...

words and sayings
foliage and nature
multi purpose
2 step sets

so at a glance you have a better idea...

just a thought! hope this helps!

I used to stamp each set with it's images and keep that in a book. Now (thanks to an idea from my demo, I copy the label sheet (actually 2 copies- 1 for my book and 1 for the box. The box comes in handy when you're at a workshop and sharing, and want to be sure which stamps all belong in that set.). Anyway, I have a book with pictures of all the stamps. Next step would be to categorize them, but for now, I just flip through the book for ideas.

I really like the dot idea! I've already made a 'catalogue' of each set, but I put several sets on a sheet and now wish they were organized better.

I use the dots on my ink pads - red, blue, yellow & green for the various color sets. I put "EE" for Earth Elements, "BB" for Bold Brights, etc., on each dot. One dot goes on the bottom of the pad, and I put a corresponding dot on the top of the storage carousel. By doing this, I never put my pads back in the wrong group. I like the dot idea for the stamps, too. My demo does this, and the sets are easy to put away using this system. I'm going to do this when I can remember to get different-colored dots the next time I'm at Wal-Mart.

Smile

on the end of the ink pad there are dots according to the color family...

1 dot for bold brights, 2 dots for earth elements, 3 dots for rich regals and 4 dots for soft subtles.

thats how i know which stack to put them into.

i never really noticed them until i had more than a few and started to try to keep them in order according to the color families.

kind of a hi-jack sorry!
