Monoadhesive

Does anyone else have a problem with monoadhesive not being strong enough to hold 2 piece of cardstock together? I love the tape runner for convenience, but after a few days, it comes undone. Any suggestions? Is there another tape runner that is stronger?

I make sure to rub it really well, and for the most part it stays stuck. Sometimes coastal GA heat and humidity is too much for it, though. Someone did mention a week or so ago that monoadhesive has a shelf life -- something to think about for those who were stockpiling huge amounts from Viking before the price change! ;)

I use tons of Mono on my projects. I get it from Viking (good thing!), so it's not as expensive, but I read here at SCS before that they changed the recipe. I used to never have problems. At a recent stamp camp, some of the SU demonstrators were coming down on the stampers for using too much. I told them that it doesn't stick as good as it used to, so we have to use more. (In the heat of the summer, a friend who was ill - a stamper friend - received a card from me that came in pieces, and she thought I purposely sent it that way to give her something to do!) I got an invitation for a very well-attended November stamp camp in Sacramento - and it is $15 and "bring your own adhesive." RIGHT! Think I'll skip it!

I'm liking the new "cheapo" brand that WalMart carries now. It's called Adhesive Tech. It costs $2.27 for 550 inches and has a stronger hold than the Tombo Mono Adhesive. I clear out their shelf every time I go in!!

Thank you Lynn... I'm going to write that on my Wal-Mart shopping list.

I like Duck brand. I know I've seen some posts where people had problems with the tape breaking, but I've only had one do that -- out the 6 I've used so far, and I'm pretty sure I'm to blame for that one!

I like and use the Adhesive Tech too. I think it really holds better than Mono. But, I have tons of Mono refills to use up too. :)

Yes I have this same problem. I'm trying to get my Christmas cards done and have noticed some of them not holding as well as they should. I have some that I need to use up too.

I don't like Mono, either. Doesn't hold worth a hoot for me. I've been using Duck brand double sided tape. I haven't seen the Tech stuff yet, but I'll be looking for it now!

I've been using the Duck, too! I really like it! I bought 3 today.

I bought a bunch on mono from viking a couple months ago, it seems to be working fine for me. It didn't work so well on the paint cans I tried to do with it, but works great on everything else, and is much faster than what I had been using!

That's really odd - b/c I used some that I got from viking a few months ago too, and I was using it on festive finery paper and paint cans - and it won't come off! It stuck that well! I tried to peel it back real easy to reposition it - but the paper was ripping as it was stuck so tight on the can! I think this last batch I got was way better than the first one I got. Maybe they have changed it or the first batch was a bad one.???

I believe the mono changed at some point, maybe about a year ago or so.

Now I use it only for CS on CS, nothing in between, no eyelets, brads, ribbon. Plain CS on CS. Otherwise it'll come apart. Apply it, press hard. If you add embellishments, use either sticky strip or some of the mounted squares, they hold better than mono under duress. Sticky strip, redline tape, whatever you want to call it, comes in various widths and is rather pricey but a little bit goes a long way. It is awesome. I told my stamping ladies the truth about adhesives, and they were happy.

tech adhesive

I found that tech adhesive from WalMart holds fine for awhile, but if it's anything long term, it will fall apart. When we got out leftover Christmas cards from last year, they were all in pieces.
I've had much better luck with mono adhesive.

chickers089 10-28-2005 01:16 PM

I use to use adhesive tech before I bought my tombo. I had a hard time keeping it from getting "gunked up". It also was hard to maneuver once it was getting cloe to the end. It skipped a lot for me. Maybe I was just challenged????? Who knows? But hey, whatever works for ya!

Qbee 10-29-2005 12:36 PM

I switched from mono to permanent Dotto and so far I like it a lot. It seems to hold really well.

stampinvicki 10-29-2005 01:01 PM

I'm not crazy about the monoadhesive. I, too, find that it doesn't stick well. I use Creative Memories adhesives (I'm a CM consultant). I recently used the SU Anywhere Glue Stick at a workshop and found that it worked very well (much better than the monoadhesive).

pinkhedgehog 10-29-2005 03:01 PM

I've also had problems with things coming apart. I didn't want to risk it with my Christmas cards, so I used Alene's THICK Tacky Glue. The thick version doesn't wrinkle up paper. My demo told me about it years ago and I love it. For scrapbooks, I always use the CM adhesive and I never have had anything fall off. CM stuff is much more expensive, however, so I like the glue or SU glues for cards. Also SU's mini glue dots are great, but pricey for a whole card, I only use them for embellishments.

meaprincess 10-29-2005 07:04 PM

I don't like mono either. I have recieved cards from others that had fallen apart in the mail. I use Pioneer brand double sided tape. I get it a Hobby Lobby for $1.99/roll. The only problem with it is once you stick it it is stuck. Very hard to reposition if it's not straight.
