Default Set on Page 81?

In Stampin' Fun for Everyone there's a stamp that says, "Stamps insulate the home." What in heavens name does that mean?! Some sets have the goofiest sayings. The little skunk set is cute, but I can't imagine sending anyone a card that said Big Stinking Deal! Really, I like you is another saying I would never use.

I laughed at that saying on the stamp because all of my sets are on a shelf against a wall ... and they truly do insulate our home ... LOL ...

I completely agree! Seriously, there are some sets that I love all of the images for, yet cannot compel myself to use the sayings. "You're Special"....maybe for kids...

OK, so Karen's explanation makes sense... LOL

But what made me do a double take was the Donna Reed looking lady stamping with her gloves on. (I would say June Cleaver, but she's not wearing pearls. ) WTH is up with that?? They look like the little white gloves my mom used to wear to church back in the 1960's. They *don't* look like the rubber or latex gloves we might wear when doing especially messy techniques.

This set is *not* on my must-have list... lol...

This catalog takes the cake for bizarre things. I started the thread on the p. 154 saying on the Hand Stamped stamp. I also just cannot get over the sayings with that stupid lawn decoration set. Who do you send a card to that says you want to hang out with people shorter and chubbier than you? Send it to your thin friends? No. Your fat friends? No? Tall or short people? It would offend ANYONE. Also the one about covering weeds in the same set is just strange. I thought the same thing about insulating your home with stamps. What is up with weird sayings?

The saying is just a joke... it's like saying "stamps can cure the common cold!" or "it slices, it dices"... or "set it, and forget it!" Sort of a play on old ads from the 40's and 50's that make all sorts of outragous claims about a product. Just tongue and cheek.;)

I agree, some of the sets are nice but the sentiment is weird. And really how many "Thank You" stamps does one person need, they seem to put that in lots of sets. Just my opinion.

I thought "stamps insulate the home" was sort of a play on words for they warm your heart - like they give you a fuzzy feeling when you own/use them. I'm not getting the set, mind you, but that's what I thought they were trying to say.

I don't get "No Place like Gnome" at all - Knobby Gnomes weren't my style but they weren't horrid to me.

And my take on why there are so many thank you words is that you always seem to need a different size or font stamp for different cards! So I like having multiple sayings that say the same thing for that purpose (some are good for tags, some are more elegant, some are casual).

The one word phrase I always hated was from a retired set a few years back that said, "thanks for being you so I can be me" - like I need to base my self worth or confidence in other people's existence! I know it is meant in another context but I still hate the phrase.

Okay am I the lone person out there that is buying the Stamping Fun for Everyone set? I love it! I absolutely love the 50/60's retro look. I adore Pattern of Friendship and thought I have to have this one when I saw this one too. I thought I could send plenty of fun cards to my stamping friends with this one. My thinking about the stamps insulate the home could be a good one to give to my hubby ;).

I am completely on board with the lawn ornament set though. Who decided that the lawn jockey was appealing? I hold a lot of negative feelings toward that thing. The sayings. . .not my thing at all. Good thing there are so many other sets that are my thing!

I love the dorky retro ladies in Stamping Fun for Everyone, but I know I would never have use for them with the stamping theme. I wish they made a set of the dorky ladies not stamping so they would have more uses. I thought the insulating phrase was stupid, too. I think the lawn ornment set is weird, but I probably would laugh if I got a card made out of them, which I think is the point.

I'm convinced that they must have brainstorming sessions of a pitcher of margaritas once a month and that is the only explanation for these.

A stamp of a pitcher of margaritas would be quite useful. Moreso than a frog spewing water.

Not sure that'd I buy the set, but I think they are pretty funny. Someone on another thread was referring to those ladies as the Stepford Stampers...!
And the saying, Stamps insulate the home, makes me think of quilters and fabric collectors, who say that about their fabric stashes! ;)

I think the whole set is very tongue-in-cheek and too funny! It's just making fun of the 50's/60's ads and the June Cleaver-types who we were supposed to emulate. I think it's great and will make fun cards to share with your stampin friends/RAKs/secret sisters.

I love the 50's/60's stuff and Pattern of Friendship is my very favorite stamp set! I am just not sure who I would send the stamping ladies too. After my stamping friends get them, they just would not work for other people. On the other hand, Pattern of Friendship is just so useful and so generic for women cards that I can use it over and over.

I have to say that I LOL when I saw that set. My sister is 12 years younger than me and tall and skinny. She just graduated from high school so she is very fashionable and cute. Everytime we are together getting ready for something I always ask her if she has anything that makes her look short and fat (It is my way of saying that she is just too cute). Then I say if she doesn't, she can borrow my clothes because they seem to make me look short and fat. It has become a family joke. So when I saw that saying I totally thought of my sister. But, the whole set is weird and I would never buy it. But I may just have to write that saying on a card and give it to her.

I also thought the "big stinkin' deal" was funny. But would never send it to someone.

ROFLMAO!!!! I'm reading the thread and then I come to this one! I thinking margaritas would be a good seller! I have to say I didn't even look closely at the Stampin' Fun for Everyone set. I had to go get my catalog to look it up! Definately won't be on my list!

I am amazed at the lawn ornaments set - AMAZED THAT IT MADE THE CATALOG! What where they thinking? Can't see a lot of uses for that set.

Also not a fan of Sweet pea on page 91. Doesn't seem very versatile! It might be cute once but then what do you do with it? And what age group would appeciate receiving a card from that set? Can't wait to see samples of it on here if anyone buys it!

I love the prissy stamper set, personally....I think it's just hilarious.

Not sure about the 'shorter and chubbier than me' one....but I did get a good giggle out of it. I'm sure that most wouldn't be offended if that saying was paired with that little lawn gnome.;)

In the 50's, the ads were very very stupid. Everything was --Good for the whole family--Nourishing for the whole family. And, new easier mixes for cooking were coming out (like Jello, etc) and that was NIFTY!
Everything, REALLY WORKED, and was FUN FOR EVERYONE.

I think if you are old enough, you kind of get a kick out of this set. I love the gloves, you had to have gloves when in a dress. And, I am surprised she is not wearing pearls. She definitely has on a garter belt with hose that come to the thigh,a girdle, pointy bra, and a full slip!

I LOVE Stampin' Fun for Everyone! It went straight on to my wish list!!

I, too, took "stamps insulate the home" literally, as mine are also against a wall! I ADORE the images - they're just so ironic that they made me laugh out loud.

As for other sayings... well, most of them are just too cheesy for my stiff-upper-lip-Britishness!!! If I sent a friend any of the "friend" sayings in the SU catalogue, she'd probably barf!!!

What about "It's the thought that counts" (Super Squirrel) - do you send that with a really bad gift!!!!????

ROFL!
I love that squirrel, but I don't think I would ever use that sentiment on a card for my friends or family. I would use it for my students if maybe they needed cheering up about something related to the saying.
