Default Clear stamps defect an their companies...

If you ever had a clear stamp "break" or there has been a defect, what have you done?

For me, PTI replaced the single image for free

I have a brand new set from Doodlebug, one of the images tore while I was cleaning it. I contacted the company and they said they will not help me since I bought the set off ebay - even though the person I bought it from has an actual store.

In the case of PTI, they are both the manufacturer and the sole retailer of their products.

But, in almost all other situations, almost every manufacturer directs the consumer to first contact the retailer you bought the product from to resolve an issue like this. I don't shop on eBay, so I don't know what the policy is for their retailers, and this particular situation.

Given the above, my first inclination would be to contact the retailer I purchased the product from, not the manufacturer, and go from there.

Actually, their csr person first said that they would replace it for me.
But when I told her it was from ebay she sent me a one liner:

"We do not honor items bought on ebay".

What is the difference where I bought it? It's still their product.

I did contact the ebay store to see if she can help me.

I have found that most companies won't honor their warranties for items purchased off eBay. Sometimes it's a resale (I bought it, didn't like it, then sold it to someone else on eBay), other times the issue is the person isn't an authorized retailer/reseller of the product and this in turn voids the product warranty.

In your case, try contacting the seller on eBay. Perhaps they can help

I had a small part of a clear stamp rip off when I was cleaning it. I contacted the company (they are the manufacturer) and they said if they could find an extra one, they would send it to me. They did not find an extra, so I just bought another one. It was only a single stamp so it wasn't that bad.

I think that's lousy customer service. I don't see how it matters who you bought it from. Their product was defective.

What if it was a gift and you didn't know where it was bought? Would they have helped you then?

What if it was a gift that someone bought on ebay and gave to you? How is that any different?

I love Doodlebug products, but I'm going to have a hard time giving them any of my money after hearing this. I wonder it's worth it to lose a customer so as not to have to replace a rubber stamp that probably cost them pennies to manufacture? I was in the market for some Doodlebug glitters and some of their sugar-coated cardstock. But now I think I'll pass.

I too love Doodlebug products, but I will not be buying anymore from them.

The person I bought from on ebay has an actual storefront and she has been so kind and helpful. She didn't buy it direct from Hampton Arts, but from a distributor. She, too, is furious with them after I told her the story. It's not her fault that the stamps were defective. I would hate to have a small business owner pay for the defects of the company.

I did notice that Doodlebug stamps, while they are made from photopolymer, it's a little "softer" than say MSE and PTI clear stamps. You have to be a bit more careful when handling them.

I promised to make my sister 70 xmas/birth announcement cards using this set too. I only got to finish 1. :(

I had a problem with a Brenda Walton clear stamp set. I was SOOOOO careful when I pulled the stamps off the packaging the first time, but despite my best efforts, one of them ripped. I contacted the company immediately, but never got even an acknowledgement from them. Very disappointing for both the company AND me. I have a damaged stamp; they lost a customer.

I had a defective stamp on a Crafty Secrets set - it just hadn't formed properly during manufacture. I contacted the seller who was very helpful and contacted Craft Secrets on my behalf. With agreement from me that it was OK to pass on my address, the seller ended up out of the loop and Crafty Secrets sent me a small demo set that included the defective stamp. As there were a couple of others on there that were repeats of the perfect ones I already had in the set, I was able to gift those to a friend. Great customer service from the eBay seller (fourcreativeseasons) and from Crafty Secrets too - especially considering it was an international purchase (I'm in the UK, the eBay seller in the US and my replacement came direct from Canada!). What a shame that Doodlebug apparently don't stand by their products in the same way.

Did the ebay seller do this for you? If so and it was a negative outcome then that is unfortunate for the Doodlebug Company, but if not I don't think we should be criticizing them.

I don't understand. Why should I have to go back to the seller if I have an issue with a manufacturer's product?

My Olympus camera is acting up. I didn't take it back to Sams Club (where I bought it), I called Olympus. I am sending it to them to be fixed.

I bought some JetMaxx cubes at ACMoore. I was missing one of the drawer pulls. So I called Jet Maxx and they sent me a new one. It says right on the instructions to NOT contact the seller with issues, contact the manufacturer.

How are acrylic stamps different?

I think that Sam's Club is a little different than the auction site ebay where items are often second hand, used etc. I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone. I just feel that if a company takes my money then maybe they should try to help me out if I have a defected product and where Doodlebug explained their ebay policy I think the seller should contact them and explain the situation.

I'm not arguing, I'm just trying to understand.

As an ebay seller, I have and would take back the product and issue a full refund. It's just good business sense and my moral convictions.

However, I really don't understand Doodlebug's rationale about ebay sales. Is it the same if you bought it at a garage sale? As I said before, what about gifts that you don't know where they were purchased. What about Craig's List? What about a LSS yard sale?

I just don't get how they can say, "Ebay? You're out of luck." Lots of things sold on ebay are brand new. Seems like very bad business sense to me and I'm not even a business major. ;)

My feeling is that there may be reasons we don't understand as to why they have the ebay policy they do and we should not be quick to bash them if the seller has not tried to explain the situation to the Doodlebug Company.

Well, Doodlebug/Hampton Arts got back to me:

Did the store offer to exchange it for you and return the product to their distributor?

I received an email from her. There are thousands of companies that do NOT order products purchased through EBay, simply because they can be used. This is a risk you take.

Im not trying to give you a hard time but stores on EBay should be held to the same standards as retail stores, which, most of them would exchange it for you.

Let me know if she offers.
Anyways, the ebay seller contacted Doodlebug regarding the sale of products thru ebay, which I agree with 110%!
"As for not honoring products purchased on ebay many stores such as myself have webstores via eBay not auction format where people browse and buy just like any other website store. It's that sort of thing that keeps us afloat in the troubled economy when local sales are just not enough. The stamps she purchased were a brand new product from my shelves and all my products are. I also have a webstore in addition to the eBay Store and Brick & Mortar storefront, please reference www.CreativeFramingAndScrapbooking.com or www.CreativeScrapbookStore.com if you are concerned about our legitimacy."
Looks like Doodlebug is willing to replace my stamp set now!!!

There are some sellers on Ebay that are authorized to sell items for a particular company. If someone is not an authorized reseller, this should include Ebay, a garage sale or any of the other things listed above then most of the time the warranty for that item is voided because they don't know what conditions that product may have been through that may have caused damage to the product. Many companies have agreements with authorized resellers that require them to handle/store the product in certain ways, price it in certain ways and even promote it in certain ways, this is all done to ensure that the product reaches the end user in the manner it is intended to.

large companies see buying from ebay alot like buying from a "yard sale". You may or may not be buying used product etc, whereas if you buy from Wal-mart you are buying direct from an authorized retailer.

If I bought from Wal-mart I would take it back to Wally. If I bought at a yard sale, I would chalk it up as I bought someone elses junk. *also why I am SOOOOOO leary of buying ANYTHING on Ebay.

Not saying there is anything wrong with buying on Ebay AT ALL... I just know with my luck, I would totally end up getting junk. LOL...

I understand the sentiments and risks of buying on ebay.

But with this particular purchase, it was an ebay webstore / a buy it now auction. The seller has 2 actual online stores as well as a brick and mortor store - so her products were all brand new in packaging! And frankly, I don't see a difference in buying from a store like hers and buying something from walmart.com
