Default Rubber stamp cutting help!

okay, I think I'm a bit mental cause for the life of me I can't figure this out.

I've read the SU instructions and such for cutting out your stamps;...but my stamps always end up crooked. What I mean is..the rubber is bigger than the foam. I end up cutting it crooked so it's not straight up and down. Is this making sense?

Are there any tips to make sure that I cut my stamps out straight so that the foam doens't end up in a smaller piece than the rubber o ntop?

Are you cutting the stamp before you put it on the wooden block?? (I know dumb question) I know some ppl that place them on the block first and then cut them with exacto knives.

What kind of scissors are you using?? Are you using the craft scissors from SU? They are really AWESOME!!!

It sounds to me like you are using scissors that are not sharp enough to cut through the rubber and foam.

Try slightly angling the bottom blade of your scissors away from the image. Sounds like you're undercutting the rubber. Also, make sure your scissors are very sharp. Cut in straight lines, rather than trying to cut "around" the image. Good luck.

lol yup. I am cutting it before placing it on the wooden block and I'm also using the kai scissors. I used crappy scissors before taking a deep breath and spending the $ on a good pair of scissors. lol

Anyways, thanks for all of your help! I really appreciate it!

You're undercutting the rubber - meaning the top blade of your scissor is angled to the right (or like this / away from the image) making the bottom blade angle inward. I did this slightly on the first few I trimmed before I realized I was doing it - doesn't take much. Just have to be very careful that the scissor blades are straight up/down & cut in straight lines instead of 'around'.

Try it on some scraps you have to see what happens if you cut with the scissor at various angles.

Will still stamp ok but have to be especially careful not to 'rock' when stamping or to put too much pressure on the edge of the wood block or the stamp may roll a bit.
