Default Memorial Gallery?

I had this thought when we lost Bugga but I never got around to asking.

I know with all the tech problems we are having, asking for something new is not great timing but with the loss of Shaz now I feel like I have to. (see the next thread)

Could we have a memorial gallery for our fallen peeps? If they were dirty girls maybe we could include their little bios on theirs?

Do people think that would morbid? I hope not.

I would be willing to help even though I suck big time at anything tech.

Maybe people could post names for it here...

TIA

I feel like this would be a lovely way to honor the memory of those who contributed so much to the site.

Not all morbid, Margot. I think it is a wonderful idea! LIKE LIKE LIKE

I had no idea that bugga passed. When I returned and didn't see some of the familiar avatars, I just assumed people moved on to other hobbies as I did several years back. So sorry to hear the news.

Like button, then memorial gallery in that order. We really need that like button!

I miss Bugga! A side note...back in 2013 we were all excited about the new tool, the envelope punch board. Everyone had one or was getting one. i had one coming but it was extremely late. I was on the thread cheering on all those who got theirs, even though i didnt have one yet. And that sweet Bugga bought me one! She knew i had one coming but sent me one anyway and told me to gift one when mine finally arrived! I still have the pm from her and treasure it. This made me go back and read it again.

I think it's a great idea!

I'm Auxiliary President at a local hospital and I often use a stamp that says "Leave A Legacy" on my envelopes when I mail things to board members and other volunteers.

That's what wonderful people like Bugga did - they left a legacy, whether through their beautiful cards and/or their helpful advice/support for other stampers.

I too miss Bugga : (

yes on Beverly! DH was sorting through his personal email inbox during a quiet time in work and he had a couple of emails from her. He must have emailed her at some stage, maybe with a song or something like that.

One of the first ladies that I started chatting with and she gave me a lot of cheering on in the beginning of my stamping was Lena-tackertwosome. Wonderful lady!

For clarification - would the gallery have pictures of the members that have passed? That’s what I was thinking you meant. But then there was the post about a possible once a year CASE challenge from the gallery, so I’m a little confused.

oops - forgot to say that I like the idea.

I'm stunned to hear Bugga and Shaz are both gone. Forever? I was gone for a few years and can't remember stamping life without them. But I knew Shaz was having wicked chemo. I was surprised how many are still here, however, and most seemed to have joined when I did, in the early 2000 years. The loss of the stores from which I bought my stamping stuff is just amazing, suggesting stamping is a fading pursuit anymore. Even Simon Says Stamp seems to be giving up and Amazon is selling their merchandise, and bits of every other vendor's stuff, too. Frantic Stamper is still around but it is VERY difficult to use their site, unless you have all day. I am really wanting the DreamWeaver Stencil, 3 cat tails, but the owner is into Zentangles now and doesn't do astencils anymore. Boo Hoo!

I agree with you on Lena, I got to meet her for coffee when she came through my city.

Another of the ladies that was a cheer leader was Linda Palmer. She was active in the RAK form.

Yes, Shaz and Bugga have passed away. 😪

I suggested both. If they were dirty girls and we have that little bio they do-it could be included in their gallery in the memorial section. (or if we have a pic of someone)

And I was thinking we could do a once a year CASE ..what time of year do people think it would be good? We dont want it conflicting with the big events here like Virtual night....and Nov-Dec we are kind of cranking out the winter holidays...

Margot - I think this is a great idea.

Comment 2.
Why can't we have a thread or spot on SCS where ideas like this and other suggestions for site improvements can be shared? Or, if there already is such a thing as the "suggestion box", where is it?

I still find much of the workings of SCS a mystery. Or, the decisions come from Lydia, or changes aren't announced at all-we just notice them as they show up as different icons, or disappearing options (the LIKE button, different size and type of fonts in messages are gone, etc.). Why isn't there more transparency to COMMUNITY and a place for sharing great ideas so that others can "vote" YES or give further ideas to improve things?

Seems like Lydia works around the clock as it is, and given the complexity of this whole site, we are incredibly lucky to have such a HUGE resource from which to draw, to hone our own artistry. Much of the workings of SCS are a mystery to me too, but that's on me, because I haven't taken the time to explore all the benefits that are available here. I'm always on a mission to get answers to my problems, and am so grateful I've never asked a question that didn't get answered. This to me is a wonderful "Social media" site, a nurturing place I haven't found elsewhere.

We already have:(that’s a link but if you’re looking for it independently, it’s the last thing on the forum Home Screen, labelled “Community feedback”).

I don’t think Lydia makes decisions so much as communicates decisions when they are made. Some of the disappearing stuff (e.g. the”like” button) seems to be things that have happened during software upgrades and were not necessarily planned (and I understand should be reinstated when more upgrades happen). The behind the scenes workings of a site as big and complex as SCS involve many people and things in technology don’t always behave exactly as you expect (as I’m guessing we can all attest after battles with printers etc) or change as instantly as we might like. I have no insider track to the workings of the site, anything I know (e.g. info about the like button) I only know from having read stuff in threads here or the announcement flashes that sometimes appear at the top of a forum.

ETA: sorry, forgot to say I like the idea of some sort of memorial gallery.

Sabrina, if you are reading this, maybe you have some historical perspective??
Years ago, there used to be an annual feedback form, but I'd say I'm thinking at least 12 years ago since I remember one.
As Joanne suggested, the forum at the bottom (which does include "suggestions" in its title) is currently probably the best place that I can think of.

I know nothing about who makes decisions, etc. In my experience, SCS is not known for being a democracy where members get to vote on anything except the polls at the top of threads.

It is wonderful to have a "free" forum available for those of us with similar interests in cardstock, inks and glue. Yet we would be naive if we thought the site operated solely for our enjoyment. It is a business, plain and simple.

Years ago, the site was sold to Internet Brands, a company that operates other popular websites such as WebMD, Cars Direct, RacingJunk.com and an assortment of forums for hunting, boating, biking, Corvettes, etc. What does Internet Brands do? According to the website, it is a "vertically focused" company that offers, "customized and programmatic advertising opportunities." In other words, they sell advertising on low-maintenance sites that get a lot of traffic.
https://www.internetbrands.com

As for the El Segundo address, well it is a large building with the words "Cars Direct" at the top: https://www.google.com/maps/@33.9300...7i16384!8i8192

Only if it involved more traffic to the site -- more unique users to see their ads. For that, they depend on us to tell two friends about the site, who in turn tell two friends and so on. (remember that shampoo commercial? LOL)

I remember that commercial lol

However keeping your existing population happy is the key to that. If we are not-we are not likely to promote the site.

There was a lovely woman named Bev who passed away six or seven years ago. Her daughter logged into Bev's computer to send me a note via SCS private messages. I never met Bev in person, never even talked to her on the phone, but I cried when I read the message. She was such a dear, sweet soul. She gifted me a SU Tea Cup & Pansies stamp set. I love it and whenever I pull it out I think of her. Funny how I know her real name but for the life of me can't recall her screen name.

Ravioligirl? Mentioned in post #12. I too have a couple of stamps that April (or was it Avril?) sent me.

YES! Ravioligirl! That was her name. Thank you!
I guess I should have gone back and read more of the posts. Glad others remember her as well.

April, sportschick? I haven't seen her post since I returned. I hope we did not lose her as well.

I guess I should have gone back and read more of the posts. Glad others remember her as well.

April, sportschick? I haven't seen her post since I returned. I hope we did not lose her as well.
No, I meant Beverly's daughter. I'm sure her granddaughter was Olivia but I just couldn't remember her daughter's name, I think it was April.

Happy Heart? If this is who you are thinking of, she posted as recently as January: Printer recommendations by Happy Heart at Splitcoaststampers

I don't think Beate passed away.I hope I am correct. She went in another direction with her interests and bowed out of the stamping community (that is what I remember reading). I still LOVE to listen to her tutorials.

I’m 99% sure she is still alive. She did give up stamping.
