I hit a yard sale that had tons of reinkers really cheap! Many for a quarter. Well, many I don't have stamp pads for but just couldn't pass up all that ink. I am wondering if there is an inexpensive way for me to make my own stamp pads using these reinkers. I've searched the forums here and have done some internet searches. I mostly come up with the baby wipe technique. I thought that was more of a one time deal not a way to keep ink long term. If this works as a permanent solution, please let me know. Also, what would I use for the actual pad? I did see something about a Ranger product but I've never seen it in stores. It's some sort of felt, but again, what would I put it in? Could use some suggestions.

Consider picking up some old style inkpads (SU hinged) off the buy/sell forum. I think I saw some for sale a while ago for $1/each. Rinse them out in the dishwasher and reink.
Would it matter if they weren't SU or right color if they were washed? I've bought used pads before and they were pretty worn. Was hoping there might be another alternative.

No, they wouldn't have to be SU or be the right color. Another possibility would be to buy new uninked pads. You would need to shop around for the best price.
You can use them to make custom ink pads for specific line images, too. You cut the pad to the exact size of your block (would probably have to be a wood mount and not cling mount). Stamp the image in stazon or some other permanent ink and let dry. Then you ink the image with reinkers in the colors you want to stamp. When you ink up the stamp the colors are exactly where you want them. Great idea if you're stamping a ton for a swap or for Christmas cards or something.
I bought a bunch of the ink cubes from the dollar store (I think they were 25cents each) and took out the foam and glued in a piece of the Rangers to make my own.
I see Heather answered about the Cut and Dry foam. I make my own pads often, and do store them in Ziplocks. I have all the reinkers, so it is easy for me. Ranger is now putting out a Dylusion uninked pad where you can spray your dylusion sprays and make your own pad. It can be washed out and reused over and over. This is from CHA, but not sure when it will be in stores.
.I did something just like what cat_woman did. I bought square dollar spot like pads at AC Moore, pulled out the foam and glued a square piece of felt cut and dry inkpad. Then I inked it up and they work great. Gonna stick with these spots from now on and not buy full size pads anymore.

Before I had my awesome SU pads I bought some of the $1 ink pads at AC Moore in similar colors, washed them out till they ran clear and then inked them up again and marked the color. It worked ok for a long time, needless to say, as I earned free pads with my hostess money over the years, I'd replace the "ghetto" version!
I have used cut and dry foam from Ranger to see if it works with Dylusions Ink sprays and it works! Instead of the big pad, I made some small ones to ink the stamps. Also, I used Cut and Dry foam with some pigment reinkers from Tsukineko (Brilliance) and they stay wet if you store them in an air-tight container.
The felt pad from Ranger can be used with dye inks, however it doesn't stay wet for too long. Tim Holtz had mentioned somewhere that it stays wet for a month or so. So, it needs to be reinked more often.
I don't think I am going to buy the new big uninked pad from Ranger since Cut and Dry foam works well for me.
I saw a video of the recent CHA, that Dylusions (sp?) has a large blank inkpad to mix your own color combo. She said you can rinse it out, but looking at the ones she had at the show, I'm not sure how clean you can get them.
Thanks, everyone for the replies. I am not trying to blend colors so I don't know that the big pad will work for me. I just need stamp pads in which to use reinkers that I do not have pads for. So, mainly just going to do individual colors.
