Question making cards - same quality or diffferent depending recipient

When making a card do you use your best materials & creativity on cards where you know it will be appreciated? And then your nice, but not best, stuff on cards where you know the person won't care/notice?

I've been finding that when making cards for other "crafters" or immediate family/friends I use my best papers & coolest techniques. But when I know the recipient won't notice or care I don't put as much effort into it nor do I use my precious supplies -- just my normal stuff. I'm wondering if this is normal or do I have an 'issue'.

I'm the same way. If it's for a close friend or family member -- I go all out. If it's for someone I don't know too well or don't think it will be appreciated -- I don't. Especially embellishments. If it's that later group I will usually just do layering and maybe some embossing.

I try to do my best for each and evey card I make. I usually don't make cards with specific people in mind, so that helps. I just try to make great cards and then turn around and send them to everyone

oops!

I didn't mean to sound like some people are undeserving of my best. But I'm not going to put a lot into a card for a 1-year-old like I would for my sister or my friends. That's what I meant to convey.

I don't usually make cards for a specific occasion. I have tons of cards made in lots of categories but I am very guilty of sending the best of my cards to the ones I know would most appreciate them and if I have a so-so card I send it to someone I know who won't care one way or another and will probably just glance at it and toss it.

The good thing about putting your best cards foward always, is that you never know when you'll get a call from someone who saw it and ask for more!

I agree. I always do my best on all cards I make. Some cards may call for more embellishments that others, but each card is the best I can do. Because I put my name on the back for all to see, so I want it to reflect my best efforts.

Absolutely!!!! If they're not going to notice or care, why "waste" the good stuff!!!! And, if they aren't the crafting sort, they'll think the "not quite best stuff" is pretty cool anyway (I hope).

If the recipient is a stamper, then they get the BEST.

Yep, I definitely make cards that way. Family and friends that I know really appreciate them I go all out for. For those that I know don't "get" stamped cards, they're MUCH simpler. Those few are never going to change their opinions and *gasp* I've even been known to buy their cards at the $ store LOL!!

I always send my favorite people my cool cards! I have a big family and they all love my cards but there are some who gush to everyone and take my things to work or somewhere just to show it off. Those are the people that I make sure I send an awesome card to!! I think any kind of crafter, whether it be a painter, cross stitcher, knitter, or card maker knows how much effort is put into something like that so the crafters in my family always get the 'good ones'!

I send/give my favorite cards to my favorite people. Those that don't/won't appreciate it, I don't necessarily go all out for. Heck, sometimes I even give/send them cards I made from a kit!

i tend to make nice cards for everyone, but sometimes i spend more time or try new things on friends and family...

only one that i "dread" making one for is my MIL...she thinks i run them off on the computer, or bought it somewhere...no matter how many times i'v told her, or even when she has been over and seen my craft room....still thinks it's a computer card....she says "wow...those computers are great aren't they?"....sigh...hehehehe...i still make nice ones, but don't knock myself out...hehehe...

I try to do my best with every card I make. Usually I have a particular person in mind, so it helps. For the kids, I keep it simple and cheerful - LOVE my Crayon Kids set for that. The #1 person I love to make card for so far is my MIL. She's so sweet. Although my sister has her 40th coming up, and somehow I'd like to just wow her socks off, lol!! It's always a pleasure and a personal process for me.

Yes, I do this. Last night I was making a card for my 9 year old. I used his favorite color and made the dog look like our dog. He will "get" that. But I messed up a little (just a little) on my embossing-he won't notice. It was late so I let it go.
I made a card for my dad. It needed serious distressing. But I didn't think he would "get" that, so I just distressed it a little.
So, as with most things, I consider my audience.
