making a "beach"

I'm doing an ATC with a beach theme. I'm looking for different ways to stamp/create the beach as part of the background. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

here is a journal i made for my niece

this is a card i made some time ago

i almost forgot about this card

i hope you find something that will work for you... happy stamping!

I took some play sand and added a pinch of glitter...put it in a dollar store salt shaker
use some mono glue (random lines) over natural cardstock. Looked really good!
I don't know how to post to a gallery or I'd show you the card.

Hope I attach this right. If so, it will be the inside cover that I made.

Beach Theme

What about using sandpaper to give your ATC some texture?

SCEmily 03-19-2009 03:05 PM

Do you have any chalk? Chalk works great for making a beach scene. I couldn't find a picture in my gallery, but I made a scrapbook page a long time ago with it. I just used some white cardstock and a sponge to put the chalk down. I did a sand color that covered about 2/3 of the bottom, but went down at a little bit of an angle, and then I filled in over there with a good ocean blue color. Then I just sponged on some yellow for the sun, some light blue for the sky and it came out looking great!

That's exactly what I did on this card which was one of the most fun to make cards I ever did.

Good luck and ...

Happy Crafting!

dhb1281 03-19-2009 04:40 PM

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...&ppuser=160121 found another one. I love the ocean! I could sit and watch the waves all day! I think I am ready for a vacation.

dhb1281 03-19-2009 04:48 PM

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...&ppuser=160121 this is the last one. This one doesn't show a beach but it shows the ocean. I had fun making these and hope they help.

You can try sand paper for sand I have done that on a few beach themed cards

I don't know if you ever decided how to make your beach but I just came across your thread...here is mine.

I have a couple of cards in my gallery where I used sandpaper for a beach.

Cook22 04-10-2009 12:59 AM

Sandpaper. Chalk over stippled Versamark. Distress EP, can't remember the colour, because someone gave it to me rather than me buying it, but it's great for sand texture.

Thanks MrHambo! I like your stamps (any tips for getting an otherwise fabulous DH to buy what you actually put on your wishlist?!?!)

I like the idea of sand EP ... was it exclusive to Archivers? Nice card!

Distress Stickles in Antique Linen make the perfect sand! Doesn't show up well here, but this is an example card I did!

Nice card! I have one of the blue Distress Stickles because I like the color but I think the larger "crystals" in the Linen awould be ideal for sand. Can't say I like it too much in blue - I prefer the "original" Stickles.

Another item for my wishlist!

I didn't look at the other links so maybe I'm repeating something here...but I like to use watercolors or reinkers+Shimmerz to create the water and the sand, then white acrylic paint for the waves. I posted a card with a sample today on my blog:

Thank you. I printed this out and placed it with next week's Michael's coupon (40% off one reg. priced item) because I will be near one on Monday. Not sure if I will buy it yet because I am (still) packing my supplies to get our house ready for listing but all that work means I need at least a window shopping break!
