Make a Mitten question on the set

Did SU do this on purpose? If so, what is the purpose? :)

The one mitten has an outline and the other doesn't. Was this a mistake and has it been corrected. Or no? :)

Maybe there is a punch that matches? I don't have my catalog handy where I am but they will put an outline around any stamp shape that has a matching punch...

It's not a mistake, there is a coordinating punch.

The outline is showing that there is a coordinating punch (Mitten Builder Punch #127824). The punch is on the same page. The stamps are so that you can stamp a left mitten and a right mitten, but the outline shows which way the punch is oriented. There are outlines around the other "mitten parts" images in the set, too...

Like that the stamp set has a pair of mittens but if you want to use the punch, it will cut into one of the mittens. If you want to use both the mittens, since they are together on the stamp, you will have to cut them both out manually. What's up with that????

I have seen some cards that appear to have a pair of mittens but if you look closely, they are both mittens for the right hand.

The only way I can think to use the punch to create a pair, is to use DSP and flip the punch then add one of the tiny stamp images. If you have a small enough border/strips of design paper, you can also punch close to the edge of the paper.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to punch out a pair of stamped mittens? One of the SU demos I use said even using the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig with a plain cardstock image of the left mitten would be difficult.

Was excited to have such a cute stamp set with a coordinating punch but am disappointed.

I would totally cut them apart without a second thought! You could double-mount them on the block (if you use wood-mounted) - one stamp on each side of the block. If you do the cling-mount or bare rubber (my preference), you'd just cut them apart and be done! I would punch the "wrong side" piece of cardstock first, then stamp it, since it would be difficult to see where you're punching if you stamped it first...

Maybe you're supposed to stamp the pair, then fold them together and punch...? Seems like it would be too bulky to get it to punch, though...

Maybe I'll re-think the whole stamp set and just get the punch so I can do it any which way I want to with dsp!

More often than not, I purchase only the punch. One of my friends usually has the coordinating stamp set so if I really wanted to punch the stamped image, I could borrow the stamps.

I guess I just didn't think how a pair of mittens would be punched. Another thing about the placement of the images on the punch - the mitten 'cap' thing is on the outside so if you want to punch out a mitten from DSP, you waste a little paper. (I try to punch and use any DSP punched image.) Guess you could use this 'cap' on a solid colored mitten.

I punched out my mittens in Whisper white then stamped them. They turned out cute

Crafter 4 Life 11-11-2012 06:01 PM

The video was great! I'll have to try this method tomorrow. The stamp set and punch are so cute together.

I saw another stamp set with separate die that I was considering but didn't want to duplicate and pay again. Hope I can use this method and have it work for me.

Flip the Mitten Video

Well, it seems as though I have been found out! Yes, it occurred to me several weeks ago when I was piercing something how I could flip that mitten and punch it out. And the funny thing is that many times I'm more accurate with it backwards than forwards!

Don't give me the credit though, or the dog's feelings will be hurt.

Thanks for the kudos!

Tried the 'secret' technique from the Ann Clemmer & Stamper Dog - it worked great! Now I will be able to punch out a pair of mittens.

Like others, I am gathering ideas for this year's Christmas cards so now have a pair of mittens to add to a card. Yeah!!!

Thank you, thank you for posting the link to the tutorial and Ann for filming your technique.
