Default Versatile Tag Punch

I posted this on the demo side, but I wanted to share it with everybody.

In another thread, someone was questioning whether or not they needed the tag punch. They were afraid that they would not be able to use it with very many stamp sets. Somebody suggested punching out cardstock with the punch to see which stamps would work. I did something a little different: I punched a tag out of clear (thin) acetate. I started to make a list of sets that would work with the punch. but I decided to quit after p. 34 when I realized that almost every set has a least one stamp or a portion of a stamp that will work with the punch! If you turn the punch sideways or on an angle, it will work with even more stamps! About the only sets that don't work too well are some of the DD sets. But, even they have portions that will work. I was so excited that I had to show my DH & my DS. Of course, they were underwhelmed!

Thanks for the info.... I think! It may just coast me the price of the punch set. LOL!
Really, I had not thought about how many other stamps it would work with, and of course the partial images would be great.

That is good to know!! I can't wait to order that punch, I like it so much better than the other tiny tag punch that is made by the same company (whale of a punch type) -- I was going to pull out a make and take I did at a class that used that punch to see what size it was also for the same reason and glad to hear that there are a lot of images that it fits --

Also I like to layer my tags and the class I was at only had something stamped and punched out which of course freaked me out (once you get into layering just you just can't imagine having just one layer you know??) I see there isn't a tag smaller or bigger to layer, and there isn't any way I want to spend time tracing around the tag 1/8 inch to layer, so I decided I would stamp the image on a square that fit that bottom portion since I have a bunch of square punches. Maybe that will help. Not sure what size but I think with all the sizes CM has of squares one of them should fit!!

Can't wait to get this tag punch -- thanks for giving us the heads up on using other stamps for this tag as well, not just the tag punches == though nice to see one of the hostess sets is one too, whee!!

I just had a thought but not sure. Could you make a larger layer using the tag corner punch? It would be a worthwhile investment if you could just cut a rectangle a tad bigger than your tag punch makes and use the tag corner punch to do the ends. This would be quicker than tracing, ect. Any thoughts?

Not to add to your wish list or anything , but I thought the same thing about layering the tags so I use the Perfect Layers tool to make my layers for my tags. (and just about everything else now!)

You can use perfect layers to make several different size layers after punching the tag. Also helpful for other straight edge mounts, just need hobby knife and mat.

Question list of uses for Tag Punch *MERGED*

Hi all,

is there a list of uses for the Tag punch? I know that you can use it to make tabs for the lunch pails, and of course to make tags.

But are there other uses's I'm missing.

also is there something similar for the Word Window Punch.

I just got both and I'm itching to try them out!

Thanks in advance!

I saw a few cards in the gallery a while back where they used the tag upside so it looked like a pocket. They stamped a background and used a white signo pen to create faux stitches. Then they stamped flowers coming out of the top. It was really cute!

I also saw a card a while back made with a tag up-side-down to make a flower pot (they stampped flowers).

These are two of the cutest, most creative uses I've seen for the tag punch:

Also, something I've done is to use one of rubber stamps from any of the tag stamp sets, stamp in a light color, cut the tag, flip it over and use the stamp you want to use. This gives you a smaller layer to use for your tag punch.
Hope that makes sense,
Christine

Two more ideas from other SCS'ers:

(1) Tag punch as a tea bag (this one is a shaker card!)

To who ever made the fence, we made one similar to that one except we stamped the paper with the weather wood stamp with black, or dark brown on the brown paper, it really looks like it was make out of then. It's also cute to use white and make the cute little "white picket fence". Just thought I would share.

Not sure I follow your thought....I do know a while back there was a thread about how to make the tag any length you wanted it to be (that is, it would have the clipped corners at one end and then could be as long as you wanted it to be.) This was accomplished by cutting a strip of cs a tiny bit narrower than the width of the tag. Then, with the tag punch upside down so that you can see what you are doing, insert one end of the strip of paper -- the strip DOES NOT go into the punch the normal way, between the blades, but is snuck in from the top side so that only the corners get clipped. After that, you trim the strip to length you want. Not sure this makes any sense, but I know there was a tutorial on it with great photos. I don't know how to do links -- maybe a computer-competent could help us out here!

I was playing around with my New Toys last night, and worked on this exact thing! I discovered that the corner tag punch will work to make a *smaller* tag that is in perfect proportion to the tag you make with the tag punch. Here's how: just cut a piece of stock that measures 1 1/8 x 1 3/8" and clip off two corners (of a 1 1/8" side). And VIOLA -- there you have it! Your new little tag will center perfectly inside the tag punch tag, with a 1/8" border all around. If you want a perfectly-nesting *larger* tag, you have to use the Perfect Layers tool. Hope this helps!

Happy trails....

Sue

The tag punch is #18 on pg. 220 and the tag corner punch is #25 on pg. 221. A tad confusing, I agree!

Happy trails....

I really want this punch now after seeing all of the cute cards. I was half thinking about it earlier when I noticed that several of the sets in the holiday mini are the perfect size for the punch. I made a template and went through the catty to see what other sets the punch would work with.
