Default What Do You Do With ....

Crystal Effects?? I am an SU demo and I am planning my upcoming techniques classes, etc for the first quarter next year, and I was wondering what you all do with Crystal Effects that I could show in a class setting.

I have the glass looking - i.e. the fish bowl from Little Hellos
Using it as an adhesive - to attach ribbon

Any other ideas? I would like to come up with five different ideas to use so that they can make five cards.

Thanks for all your help.

I LOVE CE! I use them on my tumbled tile coasters. I stamp my tile with StazOn and color with pastels. Then I squirt on some CE and spread it over the entire image. This seals the chalks and keeps the tile absorbent.

You can use CE to seal the bottoms back on the pop-top cans that are all the rage on this site.

You can color your CE too. Put some in small containers or on a plastic lid, etc and add reinkers to color it. This looks neat when painted onto our window sheets.

After you apply CE to your stamped image, sprinkle on DD glitter for a shimmer.

CE is also great to adhere our beads to a project.

HTH,
Merrie

Cathy,

I watched Shelli on DIY today, and she used CE to make an embellishment for a page. She stamped an alphabet letter on cardstock. She then wrapped wire around a spray bottle cap to form a circle. She placed the cut wire circle (the ends met, but were not joined) over the letter. Then, she applied CE so that it filled in the entire circle. After it dries, you cut out the wire-enclosed circle and adhere it to your page. It looks like it would be fun to do.

I've tried what Shelli demo'ed on DIY today.

Did you notice she was using Craft inks? I've tried the tile method using Classic inks and in runs, or bleeds, slightly.

I'm going to try these circle 'tiles' using the Craft inks and see if it turns out as nicely as the samples they had on the show today.

If you use the CE on the tile, do you still bake them?
Thanks!

I love the idea w the wire! Thanks for sharing that! I live clear out in the boonies and we don't have cable or anything, so have never seen the show.

Sorry - my referencing the word 'tiles' is not referring to ceramic or porcelain tiles. It is simply what Shelli & the host of Scrapbooking called these wonderful little embellishments.

Here's the technique on DIY that Shelli demo'd:

1. Stamp letter or image on regular cardstock. It looked like they used marvelous magenta on us white.

2. Using wire (looked like she used the 22 gauge silver from wire works), wrap around anything cylindrical. Shelli demo'd how to do this with the cap from the stampin' mist spray bottle. The ends of the wire do not have to be connected, just touching.

(She also had a sample using the flower from All the Best and maybe used the refill bottle from Stampin Mist for a guide - it was a big 'tile').

3. You can wrap the wire around the cylinder repeatedly to make a number of circles. To make the circles, simply cut the spiral apart. Think jumprings. Just snip up the spiral to separate into individual rings.

4. On a flat surface, lay one wire circle on the cs around the stamped image.

5. Apply crystal effects inside the wire circle, being rather generous with the medium. The ce will build up and stay within the wire border magically!

6. Allow to dry approx. 30 minutes to an hour. I have had these things take hours to dry, depending on the thickness & I would wager humidity and temperature are also varying factors.

7. Cut out along the outside of the wire and BAM you have an accent. Affix with mono adhesive or a pop dot.

There are a few samples in the gallery using these nifty things. Here is one by Kim Wilson:

Hope this helps,

Thanks for all of the suggestions and ideas. I am going to try what Shelli did for my stamp camp focusing on CE.

Thanks again.
