Default Sewing on cards

My question: when you sew on the front of your card, whether by hand or by machine, do you 'line' the inside of the card with another piece of paper to cover up the 'ugly' side of the stitching?

Thanks for your help

I usually sew on cardstock that I use as a mat. Then I adhere it to the card front so that the sewing underneath does not show at all.

I'm with the above poster. I always sew on the card front, then adhere it to a card base, so it never shows.

I don't mind it showing through at all so I usually sew it to the base.

I, as well sew the layer, I don't sew the base of the card, so no ugly thread is showing inside.

I don't make an effort to cover my tracks. If my sewing shows through to the inside of the card, I'm okay with that as the thread showing inside is always white. It's only the top thread that I change to different colors.

I sew on my matting layer as well so that there is never any traces of sewing on the inside of the card. I really like the look ;)

I do either way and I'm ok with it showing... it shows I made it I mean sometimes I want to do zig-zags between the top and base so that's got to show.

I usually try to use a mat so that my piercing doesn't show on an inside. But if I'm doing a CAS one-layer card then I don't worry about it.

Thanks everyone...Most of the time I want to stitch my PP to the card itself. I don't really mind the 'ugly' side when I use the machine, but when I hand stitch it doesn't look so hot. I guess on those times I will just line the card.
Thanks for the replies!

The inside stitching shouldn't look any different than the public side of the stitching unless your tension isn't set correctly. If the back of a zigzag is 'ugly', try to raise your tension number. The reverse works too if the 'ugly' part is on the top. I tie my threads rather than taping them. If you leave them long enough, it only takes a few seconds. Then the inside looks presentable. I sometimes cover my corners with pearls or buttons, in which case you can tie the threads off on the public side of the card and they won't be seen.

I always saw on my matte layer as well and then fasten it to my card base. Not sure what I'd do if I did a CAS card which I don't seem to do too many of. Maybe that's when I'd line the inside of the card to cover the stitching.

I don't mind about the stitching showing - it's just that I find it easier to get the tension right when I am using lighter-weight cardstock and DP. My card bases are heavier. But that's the only reason that I usually do my stitching not on the card base.

I don't like anything showing on the inside, so I always do my card front then attach it to a base that's 1/8 inch all around. I sell my cards, and find that people want them to look neat.

I usually only stitch the card front and adhere it to the base later. It's easier to manipulate just the card front in the sewing machine, especially when turning corners and stitching around all four sides.

Just a quick question here since you girls are talking about sewing on cards.

We are living in a motorhome fulltime right now. I do not have room for my big machine. Is there a small one out there that will do a good job? I saw the Singer Pixie, but not sure about how it would work. I also saw a Janome, but not sure about that either. Thanks!

I got a Janome Sew Mini after reading Gina K's tutorials. (It was on sale at Hancock Fabrics.) Gina explains everything in detail, better than the manual that comes with the machine. Here's a link to the first tutorial: http://blog.ginakdesigns.com/2008/02...he-bobbin.aspx
The others are listed in her blog's sidebar.

Yes, I did watch Gina's tutorial on the Janome and would love to get one if it were on sale. Thanks for the reply!

It's currently on sale for $39.99 on the Hancock Fabrics site: http://www.hancockfabrics.com/Janome...VVviewprod.htm

I didn't look up what the shipping on that alone would be, but there's free shipping on orders over $75 if you need anything else to go with it.

I also sew on the top card and use a base card to hide my stitches.
