I have seen (in person) some gorgeous cards using iris folding - specifically, a sail boat and a heart. I checked online, and it is possible to buy the pre-cut cards.
Do any of you do your own cutouts - even for circles and squares? If so, what cutting tools do you use successfully?
I do my own. I use a Coluzzle and the many templates they make.
P.S. I don't typically do Iris folding; I was doing research for a magazine article involving folds in card-making, and had to learn about it, to write about it. ;) It was fun!

I print off the Iris folding pattern and cut it out..trace that on a card and cut out with a very sharp exacto knife. I have done about 20 different patterns and love it.
I use the Sizzix at my Craft Store. Have done Turkeys, Gingerbread men, Xmas trees. Cut out on cardstock and use the negative. You still have the postitive for decorating something else.
My MIL is really into Iris folding. She makes some beautiful cards, So I get any template I need from her! I use a craft knife and mat to cut it out. I've made sail boats, baseball caps, circles, ovals, and stars of David. It's really not that hard. Would be nice to get them pre-cut as long as they are the right size for the template.
ETA: I use the CM circle and oval cutters fro those shapes. Everything else is the xacto knife.

Would anyone have a picture of a soldier or helicopter or something on this order using iris folding?I have one but, I can't read the numbers on it.

My LSS store sells cut outs and a pattern template you can follow. I love this techinique....the cards look so impressive and it's really not hard, just time consuming.
I use a Circle Scribe to cut out heart shapes and circles, and just use a metal ruler for straight edged shapes You will find some cut out card blanks at www.cardinspirations.com for the sail boat and a few others. I have several iris folded cards on my picture trail in various albums.
After the patterns are downloaded to my computer, I insert them in a word document and resize them to whatever size card I want. I then print off two copies. I cute the pattern out of one, trace it onto my cardstock or patterned paper, and cut out with an exacto knife and glass mat (make sure your blades are sharp). I can then lay my open pattern over the other pattern I printed out.
If you go to www.circleofcrafters.com, they have 1)free iris patterns and 2)a iris folding forum and many people on the forum create awesome patterns and are very willing to share. I have some examples of cards made from patterns from there on my blog.
