I'm sure I read it on here before, but does someone substitute a particular cardstock for SU ultrasmooth white? I have to make a lot of cards for something and I can't bear to use my USW and have it thrown away. I just want to substitute something close. Any ideas? Thanks.
SU's US white is a very high quality cardstock & I don't think any of the CS listed above is nearly as good. Of course, you don't always need to use the best, but when I'm putting a lot of work into a card, I like to use a high quality CS.

I totally agree with you. USW is the best for getting a clear, crisp image. It's just that I need to make a lot of something that is eventually heading into the trash. USW is too good for the trash.

That's why I use the other stuff! I only use SU! CS for those who will appreciate it's value!
Someone here on SCS recommended Georgia Pacific cardstock from Walmart & swore that it was as good as SU's US white. I bought some to see for myself, and holding them side by side, I decided that GP's was a little heavier (it's 110 weight...I don't know what SU's is) and IMO a little bit brighter. It isn't quite as smooth, when holding them both, but it really is a very good quality & holds ink really well. I DTP'd the front of a card made from it, totally covering it in Barely Banana, to the point that it was even dark (I never thought Barely Banana could look dark!), and it never bled through to the inside.
We have a paper supplier here called ExPEDex and I went there with SUs white CS and they matched it pretty closely...so I would recommend going to a paper supplier and doing that.
I use both the Georgia Pacific and Exact Index - any heavy white cs in a pack from the office store. I would avoid buying the Michaels or hobby store CS in the smaller amount packs becuase my experience has aleays been that the stuff at Michaels is more like construction paper - very porous and the ink seems to spread. But...the Georgia Pacific and Exact Index (or Office Supply heavy white cs) is made ofr printing so it does not bleed!
I agree with you on the SU USW - although GREAT quality and BEAUTIFUL for stamping on, it is hard to use in mass quantity when you know it will not be as appreciated!
I use the Georgia-Pacific 110-lb. white cardstock from Wal-Mart. It's sold in the office supplies aisle with the copier paper, printer paper, etc. It was 150 sheets for I think $4.95. I've found it to be excellent quality. I've used SU U/S white too, and I have a hard time distinguishing between the two brands when I hold one sheet of each brand up next to each other.
I've also used some stuff I found at Ben Franklin. I don't remember the name brand of it but it definitely was not as good quality as SU or GP. It wasn't even a good true white. It was just ick. I still have a little bit of it left that I let my kids use when they want to make cards.
I use the GP white from Sam's, when I actually use white.
99% of the time, ok well 80% I use US Vanilla. Man, I need stock in that color.
I know the the GP white isn't quite the quality in smoothness, which is important sometimes so I keep US White for those times. Plus, my daughter has unrestricted access to most of my stamping supplies so I don't mind her using the cheaper stuff. And, no, the SU cardstock is not in the unrestricted section, she gets her own from Michaels.
I work at Michaels so when I teach a class there I have to use their
cardstock and I find there's is thinner and not as nice and also their color cardstock are strange colors there red isnt really a good red.

Office Depot has a line of paper by I believe WASACH that comes 8.00 for 500 sheets. It is really cheap. Not the best quality, but heavy enough that it feels OK in the hand and if people are going to throw it out, it works.
It comes in a number of colors, most of them really awful. But the white and the vanilla aren't bad.
I use it for my bulk mailings to famly. If I have to make 70 Christmas cards, I don't want to pay to use US White. I send out the Wasach paper at about .05 per sheet, that's 2.5 cents per card.
Georgia Pacific 110 lb from Walmart or Sam's club. It really is really hard to tell the difference between that and SU!'s, but I do believe it is a little heavier weight than SU!. I use the stuff all the time, and I don't feel bad when my kids waste it! At my Walmart, it's around $5 for 150 sheets - only $.03 a sheet! It is very smooth - much smoother than the paper packs I bought at Michaels.
If I'm not going to use USW, then I will use King James or Kromekote. These are a little more glossy and heavier. But the results are amazing. If you have a Kelly Paper you will find these there.

Hmmm....don't all cards get thrown in the trash by the recipient after a few days? :? I know I never keep the ones I receive for very long unless someone has written something wonderfully touching in it. But then, I don't feel any particular attachment to the cards I make, either. I don't even keep the scans I use to upload to SCS.

I think you're talking about Wausau brand.
Whatever you choose, get the brightest white you can as this will give you the smoothest surface. Otherwise, the edges of the image will blur and feather as the ink soaks into the paper.
