What do these usually look like? I know the "Rainbow Bridge" poem is out there and I'd like to use that, but I don't have a lot of dog (the pet was a dog) stamps...and the ones I have are buried in a box somewhere. And the dog stamps I do have don't look anything like her dog did, so I wouldn't think they would work anyway.
So, I'm assuming that the usual thing I do for sympathy cards (I use a stamp with an angel that looks sorrowful) isn't exactly appropriate in this case. This is a customer/friend whose dog just died...he died of old age, but she was at church this morning so upset that I want to send her a card but I'm kerflummoxed as to what the outside should be? Anybody have samples?
Jan, I wouldn't worry at all about the image. Flowers, leaves, whatever. As with "people" sympathy cards, the message you're wanting to convey is that you're thinking of them.
If you want something to tie specifically in to the Rainbow Bridge poem, maybe the (geez, the set name is escaping me...) stamp with the line of trees, sort of looking like it's off in the distance? Ugh, hate it when my memory doesn't cooperate, lol.
Really, though, this is one of those "it's the thought that counts" things. Just knowing that you understand the depth of loss she's feeling is special.
Here are a few quotes that I have that I think are good for dog sympathy. I tend to do something soft and sweet for these.
If there are no dogs in Heaven,
then when I die I want to go
where they went--Will Rogers
Inside: With heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your beloved companion
Outside:
We never lose the pets we love,
For even though they're gone,
They're always in our hearts
and their love lingers on.
Inside:
Our thoughts are with you.
Hope these help!

Lovely as a Tree? I think that one w/ the Rainbow Bridge poem would make a beautiful sympathy card!

one of my friends used the dog stamp from a little love with "ruff day" underneath him. she stamped the dog four times in squares and only put the sentiment on one of them. it was really cute
Jan you have me in tears for being so sweet to make a sympathy card for a pet's death.
Over thirteen years ago I adopted a cat who was estimated to be 3-5 years old. Two weeks ago he became so sick that the vet said it was a kindness to put him down. I had a real hard time of it and it would have been so nice if I someone had sent me a sympathy card.
I agree with many of the other posts - use flowers, leaves, etc. Using a dog on the card really would not be appropriate. Expressing your condolences - pet or human - is the important thing!

Anything - like others said, it's the thought that counts. When our cat died (we had to have her put to sleep), we only got one card - and that was from the vet! It's just nice to know that someone is thinking about you and knows how upset you are.
A couple of months ago, I was hosting a baby shower and I was getting everything ready before guests started to arrive. I noticed one of our 2 cockatiels in the bottom of the cage, gasping. I took him out and he laid his head on my chest and died. My husband and I had gotten Bert when we were dating and had him for 7 yrs. Anyway, back to op, one of my best friends sent me a card that said "Such a sweet little soul could never be forgotten." It was so nice for someone to recognize that loss, it meant so much to us.
You are a very kind person and I'm sure your card will mean a lot, no matter what you choose to say.

Great ideas ladies....A few weekends ago, we were visiting my brother-in-law and his family and my extra large dog got overly friendly with my nephew's guinea pig and the poor thing didn't make it. Needless to say, I felt horrible and we have all been crying our eyes out ever since! I need to make something for him too....Keep the suggestions coming and I will work on a card to memorialize "Snickers".
Cornish Heritage Farms has stamps for the loss of a cat and a dog (go under "Dogs" or "Cats" section of their stamps.) You probably wouldn't get it fast enough but maybe you can borrow the phrase. (I actually just ordered these about 1/2 hour ago.)
I would be very touched to receive such a beautiful card with such a nice sentiment. I too lost my 13 yr. old cat several months ago and I did receive a couple of sympathy cards from friends who know how much my pets mean to me. It was very comforting to know that someone was thinking of me so I know your friend will be very touched that you thought so much to make a special card. You really did any awesome job and you are an awesome friend!
well this doesn't really go in a card but i just saw this a couple of days ago and have to pass it on
its from a comic strip called raising duncan if the link doesn't come up to the right date as sometimes i think this jumps to the current date when you click on it go to july 21, 2006

Not too long ago, there was a LSC challenge to make a card from a pet. I made one and sent it to my parents as if their dog, who was living its last days had been sending it. I used All about U and the "Bless U." The dog was saying "Bless U for taking care of me my whole life." Maybe that's not what you are looking for. But it takes a good person to tend to a helpless creature.
