Board book instructions

I need help with making a board book from scratch. I have cut out the front and back covers and need to know if the edges must be:

painted ( if so must the colour be the same as the paper )
left as is but sanded
or
does the paper have to be wrapped around the cover towards the back and another piece put onto the inside front cover.

I would like to use jump rings as the other way seems complicated

Can someone please explain what I should do

I did several matboard books before. One one of them I painted the whole front first with red acrylic ink, then with black and then added the crackle medium over it. I painted the sides as well.

You can do it anyway you like. If you look on the cover of the holiday mini book, you can see Stampin' Up! only covered the front of the cover with paper and left the sides be.

I like to wrap the covers and then just put a liner on the inside of the covers to finish it off like a real book.

oh...forgot...

I cut my paper 1" larger than the cover is going to be (on each side so 2" total larger than the cover). I center the chipboard on the sheet and adhere. I cut across the corners so that I am cutting off a triangle on each corner. This leaves 4 "flaps" that when brought around the edges and adhere to the cover gives you a 1" mitered corner edge around the entire thing. Then I cut a coordinating color 1/4" smaller all around than the cover size. I center on the inside cover and adhere.

It just gives it a very finished look.
