Can anyone recommend something else I could do to jazz this gift card up a bit? It's for my 16 year old nephew. I have limited supplies. Thanks.

Do you have anything that looks like coffee beans that you could put on the top and bottom?

cmaibauer 06-19-2008 10:44 AM

No coffee or bean type stamps... guess I will have to add that to my wish list :)

This is from Markie's mom's blog. I love this technique and if you can find coffee beans or something in a magazine it would work.

what a cool technique. Will have to keep that in mind

Well, speaking as someone who has used bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves and sugar on a *sugar and spice* card, and nutmegs on another one - you could stick a real coffee bean in the bottom bit of the scalloped circle. But I'm not sure that it would add to it.
Have you any swirly stamps that might look like steam?
Or an elegant flourish, even?
Or just be happy with a card that looks good as it is :-)

the base card is great! love those score lines.
the center medallion is a little plain compared to how bright and great the base is.

Maybe some dots around the edges of the circle or something stamped underneath. do you have patterned paper or background stamp you could use and then put the sentiment on top of that? Maybe a larger circle to mount it on?

you could do a bit of doodling around the circle on the sentiment, or on the top or bottom of the card in brown or black.

Maybe instead of just a circle in the middle, you could do a coffe cup and stamp the sentiment in that? It shouldn't be too hard to draw one if you don't have a stamp. Stamp your sentiment in the cup, then draw some stem lines coming out at the top. It would add a little something. You might also consider sponging the edge of your card with either the orange or brown ink, or direct to paper around the edges if you don't have a sponge. Ireally like the clean and simple lines, but it does need "something".

I agree, some type of flourish or decorative element on the top and bottom white spaces. Another idea -- ink the edges of the card and circle with brown ink or chalk...

Perhaps you could print out an image from the internet of coffee beans similar to the image or paper that was on the card from Markie's Mom's blog and use that as one of the strips under the medallion.

You could carve your own stamp, out of an eraser. Or if you have fun foam, you know the stuff kids make projects out of? You could trace a drawing of a coffee cup, or some coffee beans on to it, cut it out and adhere it to an acrylic block and stamp an image with it. You could very easily make swirls for the 'steam' too. HTH
