Default Ink Staining Stamps

Hi,

Well I made my first card today and had a bit of an issue. I used the Stampin' Up ink with the TAC stamps. Now I can't get the ink off the stamps... They are stained black. I have the scrubbing pad from Stampin' Up and I tried using that with just water. I had little luck with that. So then I tried using a baby wipe and then water again. Still no luck...

I am trying to get pregnant so I was hoping to avoid anything with too many chemicals. I may have to give in though... Are these stamps ruined?

Thanks!

ultra clean works, not sure of the chemicals, but try not to smell them. it is the stamp cleaner TAC sells or you can get it online. I like www.stampingfreak.com for my ultra clean.

Do you have any Simple Green? That works good on getting stains off. You could even try dish soap and an old toothbrush or nailbrush.

Just water probably won't do the trick because the SU black ink is supposed to be waterproof (I think).

Repeat after me:

"A stained stamp is a happy stamp!"

Seriously, a little staining is bound to occur... particularly with darker inks. But it's a good thing! It means the stamp is loved enough to be put to use! ;) Just because it looks like the ink is still on there, it's not... the rubber has just become slightly stained is all. As long as any residual ink has been cleaned off (Which is exactly what you did by scrubbing them on your Stamp -n- Scrub), then there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Staining will NOT harm the rubber.

Stamps are tools, not jewels. The cleanliness of the rubber has no bearing on their performance.

Welcome to the stamping club!

Depending on the type of ink, and how dark it is your stamps will get stained.

Stampin mist is sold to go along with the stampin scrub and I've used it through both pregnancies, and I know a lot of other pregnant stampers that used it. It works great, except on black which will always stain.

Get yourself an extra Yoyo Yellow pad. Seriously, any of the inks that have yellow somewhere in the formula will dissolve the black ink really well! For $5.25, it's a safe alternative to harsh chemicals.

I learned this the hard way after trying to use some alphabet stamps that I had used the Basic Black on first and stained with my Yoyo Yellow pad!

Yes ... it is unexpected .. but I also use both things:
* Ultraclean .... (but I'm not pregnant)
* single-purpose YoYo Yellow pad .... cuz I was paying attention when Jan Tink and others yakked about this a couple of years ago! Try it! It really soaks off that black!

I also use Ultra Clean and it is wonderful -- will even clean off old stains on stamps. Your stamps are definitely NOT ruined ... all stamps stain somewhat with use ... the stains dont affect the stamped image. But for sure get some kind of cleaner and that will help. My recommendation is Ultra Clean!

Ultra Clean is truly miraculous. It's cleaned stamps of mine that were stained for YEARS.

I'm so going to be buying a yoyo yellow pad now.

I use the "Lemon Scented" Staz on Ink Cleaner for most of my stamps and a toothbrush if they're misbehaving.

Did you realize that the Basic Black (and Basic Brown and Basic Gray) are WATERPROOF inks? That's why your initial approach was unsuccessful - you were trying to clean them with water. When using these inks, I clean my stamps with the StazOn cleaner and the Stampin'Scrub, then treat them with the Stampin'Mist to make sure the rubber stays conditioned. I've heard that using the Yoyo Yellow pad works, but I personally have never tried it. HTH.

Default Stamp lightly first?

I read somewhere that if you stamp with a light color the very first time that you use the stamp that it will help resist the darker staining in the future.

Does anyone do this??? I haven't tried this because I am a believer that a stained stamp is a happy stamp 'cause she get used.

Do you have any Simple Green Cleaner?

If you do take a capful and add it to a spray bottle and then add some water. about half the bottle.

Spray it on your stamps and then clean them

I use an old washcloth and a toothbrush and clean mine.

This is the best idea ever. I stamp all my new stamps on YoYo Yellow before using them. I don't know why it works...but it sure does!!!

Just heard that you can put some glycerin and dawn dishwasing soap on a plate and leave the stamp soak in it for a while. The blog it was posted on said it takes all the old black ink off the stamps without all the harsh chemicals.

Default stained stamps

personally staining doesn't bother me (JUST MEANS I LOVE MY STAMPS) but for my customers i always tell them if you like to keep your stamps like new stamp in versamark before stamping in black or dark colors it wipes right off!
