Default Improve this card - join in the fun

We all have cards we're less than thrilled with. I thought it might be fun if we all post 1 card link that we're not completely happy with from our gallery and if others from this thread then give us "advice" in the comments on how to give our card a makeover.

Then if you do "makeover" your card, post another link to show us the new and improved version.

Here's my not so perfect card that I just couldn't get to work (it's such a cool stamp and I even cut the little grater slits to make it more textured):

I like the card -- however you DID ask for critique -- I think what is difficult about that stamped image is it's size. Ordinarily I would suggest mounting the stamped image on a black panel -- but you really don't have much room to work with. A textured background is alway nice - either linen or floral or??????????? That's all I can think of. I like the way you did the image and don't think it needs to be improved on

We're thinking alike here. I thought that another layer (or two very thin matts) under the grater/flower image would make the image pop a little more. Perhaps more color on the flowers. And depending upon the colors used for the matting under the image, a grossgrain ribbon to match the matt rather than white. I really like this card!

Thank you, blizlady for confirming me. I was feeling out on a limb offering any kind of criticism because I liked the basic card so much.

I agree, I would do a light blue or pale purple mat around the focal image and then a light blue or pale purple grosgrain instead of the white ribbon. It's already a very cute card! That stamp is cute!

I think you need more color in the flowers, and a different ribbon ... a nice grosgrain.

I love Stamps by Judith stamps!

I love this game. I would take the lavendar from the flowers and sponge it on the edges of the white card. I'd color in the leves with green and add just a little yellow to the buds to make it pop. Then I'd add a very thin black border either with a layer under it or an outline with a sharpie.

That is better- I like the pop of color instead of the B&W.

That is one really cool image, and it's been fun reading suggestions from others and also offering a few. PLEASE post back to this thread with a link to your next sample of this image so we can get to it easily. (And now I'll be searching for that floral grater image; gotta get it!!!)

I would totally do away with the ribbon altogether as I find it takes away from the very cool image. Also, I would mount the image on lavender and instead of cocking it to the side, i would center it straight.

this is like the Brutal Honesty thread, months and months ago, which was AWESOME and so much FUN!!!

OK, here's mine, as I still chaffe to this day over it:

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...hp?photo=10048

But, I dunno if I still own *that* stamp set to give it a make-over . . .

Nonetheless, while I'm busy digging around for it, I'd *LOVE* to hear suggestions on how to improve it!!! If I can't end up finding the set, I think I could still develop something based on those suggestions with another image I do have, that is kinda similar!

Ellie, your card is really cute. The only thing I would do is emboss the sentiment so that it stands out a bit more.

I would add stickels to the butterflies and I agree embossing the sentiment would make it stand out more. I love this card!!

I totally agree. I think this is an adorable card. The only thing I would do is the embossing of the sentiment - it just gets a little lost. However, I have to say that I would be tickled to get this card in mail just as it is!!

I have so many other things to do but I just can't resist the fun of playing around with these cards. Here is what I came up with for Ellie and Julie's cards.

On Ellie's card I'de move things around a bit and then emboss the saying. It needs to come off as being a little darker and bolder.

On Julie's, I'd do the edge sponding on the main white piece and relocate the tub gal onto a layered piece like the saying is.

What if you slipped a piece of complimentary organdy into the grosgrain knot and embossed the butterfly with Iridescent Ice EP?

I would stamp the focal image onto watercolor paper and watercolor it in--it has so much wonderful detail and yet still open enough that it wouldn't be overly tedious to watercolor it, I don't think?

I'd use lavender, and purple-ish hues, (It appears on my screen that those are the colors you've chosen, but I can't tell for sure) and intersperse some pale blue and navy blue here and there, and a hint of mustard yellow or even pumpkin in there on the centers of the daisies, as well as some olive/celery on the greens . . .

Mat it to an eggplant layer, then mount all to a pale lavender--like amethyst, as the base card.

I like the angle of the focal as you have it, but I'd swap out the white ribbon for narrow organdy (and pehaps double it with a gingham?) that all coordinate with the colors you've chosen.

Then, I'd apply a dab of Prisma Glitter to the centers of the daisies, just for added kick.

Julie, are you a thread killer? LOL!!! Just found this thread and need to add my ugly mummy card to it. Someone tell me how to fix my mummy card!
Love the suggestions Julie made on the OP's card. Can't wait to see the finished outcome.
Julie, as for your card I love the effect you're going for but it does seem like it's missing something. I think the tub and shower curtain need to be mounted on another layer maybe???

Every time I look at it, I think: OK, good concept (the vellum curtain), but trash everything else on this design and start over.

I finally found the darn stamp set last last night!

But, I *must* make a bday card for my Mom today first.

Ellibelle - I'd agree with the making your sentiment stand out a bit more...embossed or matted...

Julie - maybe some sponging like someone else suggested, or a bit of glitter on the flowers. Or...make the tub/curtain/leg piece a more central image and put the sentiment inside, but so that you can see it through a window on the outside? Maybe incorporate the vellum into that window too? Oh, I can see it in my head, just not describe it It's cute either way!!!
