I got a journal as a door prize. It is really nice except it has an ugly rooster on the cover. I'd like to cover it and decorate it, then gift it as a gift.
I did do a search, but nothing came back quite what I was looking for. It has a hard cover binding, like a book.
Has anyone done this who could give me some pointers?
the ones I've done i've covered in scrapbook paper. Use Mod Podge and spread it over th cover and then lay your scrapbook paper on top. Hope that helps. I know some people have used SU cardstock too but I haven't tried that yet.
Is modge podge some sort of paste? I've not heard of it. I've never done anything of this sort before.
Do you cover just the front, or do you cover the entire book? I want to cover the entire book, but it is just big enough that a 12x12 sheet is slightly too small. I guess I'll just have to experiment a bit.
dawn mod podge is a paste you can get at wally world in the craft section, has an orange or yellow label. If you want to cover the whole book i'd suggest doing it in two bits and leave the binding so you can see it.
Well, this is what I ended up with. I am actually pretty pleased since I basically just made it up as I went along. I used a CM album for inspiration. My image is still pending approval, but here's the link.
I've covered a spiral bound journal by clipping the ends of the wire where it's bent to hold it on, carefully taking out the wire, covering the cover with cardstock and using the sticky tape stuff, punching holes, and then putting the wire back on. I was worried that I would never get it back on, but it was very easy. Of course I stamped the card stock and used crystal effects to glue on a metal label holder, got glue on the cover and then used buttons to cover that glue, and then . . . well the glue part got kind of messy, but covering the journal was easy and fun.
Awesome job. I love covering the composition books. They are easy to do and you don't have to worry about the binding because it's already black and it looks good with everything I have done so far. I normally use the pretty paper on the front and cover the back with plain white CS. I also like to use colored staples to staple little bits of ribbon around the edges. I make these for my friend's daughters because my boys are just not into anything that doesn't involve dirt. LOL
UGLY ROOSTER!!!! I'm hurt! :( I have never seen an ugly rooster! I have roosters all over my kitchen... in a tasteful kinda way. from now on you can SEND ME YOUR UGLY ROOSTERS!!!! LOL!!
