I'm Kinda Frustrated...
As I browse through the gallery, I am so disappointed and frustrated with the amount of people who post NO information about colors used, inks, stamps, etc. and simply give their blog address. There are times that I even venture off the their blog and can't find the card I was looking at on splitcoast. Is anyone else frustrated by this? Please put some information on your cards Ladies!

PLEASE do not start this again. We just went through this a couple weeks ago. It was MOST unpleasant. It doesn't need to be rehashed.

I feel for ya but there have been countless threads just like this that just go round and round... this issue will never resolve itself IMO...
My best advice is to pm the creator and tell her you don't blurf and would appreciate more details... |
I guess everyone feels that their way is right and best for them. People that put their info only on their blogs want the traffic to come there. But then there are people who don't have time to keep going to so many places. I have to say though that if I see information on a card in the gallery and then a blog site, I am more likely to go there than just having the blog address and no other information. I'm so aware of this sensitivity in so many people here that I give maybe *too much* information in my recipe. Better more than none, in my mind.

I do try to list my stuff when uploading but for a long time I didn't know we were "supposed" to. I think that's probably where alot of the non-information is coming from.
|
maybe if it is mentioned enough, people will not just upload their cards without the information; or maybe they aren't looking for a comment either,
why take the time, if they can't |

I am personally just glad people take the time to share their cards at all.

I have been stamping since the mid-80's and have tons of stamps from companies that are now out of business. My paper is from paper sales at stationary warehouses and often has no color name or brand name. Most people here are familiar with SU sets so it seems redundant to put all that info down to post a card in the gallery.
|
This has been discussed ad nauseum. Every time it is, the "official word" from the powers that be (PTB, lol!) is that there IS NO "supposed to" at all. Do what's right for you and quit passing judgement.
Gale mentioned that "people" never change despite this being discussed so many times. Perhaps that's because you CAN'T change other people...you can only change yourself. I guess that means that maybe you all should consider changing your attitudes and just let people be. Take what is shared and be grateful for that. If you think more should be offered, then keep that in mind when YOU are uploading a card... |

I for one am going to start sending that link (via PM) to people who only list their blog. |
I think that what is the most frustrating, is when you see a really great card, and would like to know what stamp it is, and there is no info at all.
You can almost guess or come close to the paper and ink colors, but sometimes you would just like to get that stamp. I am not familiar enough with SU to know which stamps come from which sets. Plus not everyone uses only SU. There are tons more out there!! But people have the CHOICE to list whatever they want. As another person wrote, you could always PM the person and ask the details. Thats my 2 cents worth!:) |

I see you've been a member here since 2005, but am guessing that you more than likely enjoy spending most of your time when here, within the galleries; unless you spend a lot of time in the forum, you may not have seen previous discussions on this issue, which at times can be a sensitive ones, no thanks to me. I truly regret ever having said one word about it; they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and no one feels that more acutely than myself whenever this topic pops up every now and again, since it was launched at the time with only good intentions at heart (my heart). :( I recognize that not everybody in the SCS community is an experienced stamper that can recognize colors and identify products on sight; the courtesy of listing sources and details with uploads can be exceedingly helpful for new stampers--not to mention, it can reduce the volume of repeated emails/PM requests for such. ;) It can also be frustrating for those gallery viewers on dial-up, if they have to visit a blog to find out the recipe, and no direct link was provided; you hafta dig to find it. Yikes! Anyone who has had any experience of what that's like on dial-up, will have nothing but utmost sympathy--you can waste hours trying to find it . . . But, by the same token, there is also no Splitcoast requirement or obligation for anyone to include basic recipe or source information whatsoever, when sharing their artwork here; every individual is at liberty to do as they please within their galleries, with the only exception being that members not include "promotional" language with their uploads (a.k.a. "pimping"). The discussion may be old to some who have been here a long time, but, new to others. Please do not be discouraged from engaging in open dialog here, even if the discussion is a repeat. Chances are, there are many others who have the same questions or concerns, and have no idea the topic has ever been broached before. http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/budhug.gif |

Exactly! When I have a few minutes to spare, I spend it in the gallery. I came to the forum today to search for ideas on marker storage. There are probably a lot of people that didn't know this issue has been discussed or was a sore subject. |
We all have to keep in mind that not everyone sees those threads. I'm sure the OP had no bad intentions. Also, I would say it's food for thought that if you do gallery entries not to do it yourself because you know how frustrating it is when it's done with a card you like.

This forum is here to help and encourage people, not insult them for bringing up something that you may have heard MANY times. It's always a FIRST for SOMEONE out there!!:) |
I'm with those who'd really like to see information added to the gallery. I can't get to most any blogs from work (which is where I spend the majority of my online time). I can only get to the SCS blogs...none of the others. So when I see a stamp that I'd really like...it sucks that there is just a link to a blog. I totally understand that not everyone has time to upload all of it, or that you don't know what the stamp, etc is...but for those that do, it would be Really helpful! Also...seeing as I'm at work...I just don't have time to PM every single person who has something I like...but doesn't add the info. :-(

Tough choices!
True, I don't like it when no ingredients are posted, but I may still comment on it, if I have been inspired by it or saw something interesting about it.
I've found that when I'm black & white on issues, any issues, it really narrows my choices and limits my freedom. This is true for almost everything in life. |
