Default My first cut/mount - look ok?

I just cut out my first SU! stamp ever and mount. Can you tell by this picture if I cut ok or is it too short or long? Do you have any advice for me?

Looks fine to me. Cut and mount your stamps which ever way is easiest for you to use and you should be just fine.

Jen - looks pretty good - the best way to check is to ink it up and see if it the edges of the rubber pick up any ink. I would probably cut a lot more rubber off along the top edge in the photo and the left edge point and the bottom right edge point. But then, I'm a really close trimmer because I get a little excited when I stamp and am likely to get edges if I don't trim really close. this particular image has lots of open space between the dots so I would just cut away blank parts that border the edge. Hmmm....not very clear.

My DIL finally ripped some of my rubber/foam off
the blocks and showed me the wisdom of close cutting. I'll be eternally grateful to her for enlightening me. My stamping improved greatly.

actually what didi said is the best........

Looks much better than the first stamps I bought and mounted years ago. I think it is a work in progress because my latest stamps are trimmed much closer. I don't know which stamp that is but I remember trimming it and wondering if I did the best job I could. Does this mean I have to many stamps because I can't remember which set that is from? I did mount about 20 sets in a two week period.

I would definitely cut more rubber off the edges. Just don't get too narrow of a strip of rubber though, or it will be wobbly when you stamp. I cut mine really close so that the edges don't get inked and make a mess on my CS.

It LOOKS good. But the way to tell is stamp a few times with it and see if you are picking up extra ink. You'll end up using this kind of small backround stamp in a repetetive way, so try it that way. Stamp a whole (scrap!) piece of paper with it. By the end, you'll end up using it the way you will when you're not thinking about being careful of the edges.

Remember, it's just rubber! You can loosen the adhesive in the microwave with short bursts of power and trim closer if you need to later. And I often end up just snipping off a little of the red rubber without removing the entire thing if it's just a bit in the way.

ps About the labels, make sure you trim these so that there is not any around/going over the edges. Even when it sticks nicely now, after handling it a lot, it will loosen up. So trim that sticker so it is all only on the flat part--am I making sense?

PPSS Did you get Everyday Flexible Phrases? If you did, make sure to read some threads about it before you cut. There have been many very helpful tips posted about this set, and I for one was very grateful to have some guidance.

Thanks for your input. I am glad I asked because I did not trim the sticker and I did wrap it around the wood. I was wondering about that so I will not do that again. If I end up microwaving this, what do I put on the rubber to get it to stick back nicely to the wood?

I do not have EFP. It did get alphabits though and I read how you can make your own flexible phrased using the stamp a giggy thing which I don't have but will get.

I do have a question about stamp giggy thingy  . I read that you don't need the wheel alignment (sp?) and the stamp a ma gig both - do you agree?
