Yes, or squeeze the cover of the inkpad and pick up ink from the cover. Or use them with a reinker Or put Future Floor Wax in one and use it to color in with PearlEx (don't think you can go back to using water in it though).
I haven't really liked the results with the watercolor pencils...prefer blender pens for that.

This is my favorite! I love to use re-inkers like paint. Use just a dot on a plastic palette (stamp storage case) and watercolor away! Since I don't have all the colors of re-inkers yet, I find that I use the markers on a plastic palette alot. I also like using the water color pencils - I either add a little color directly on the image and blend with aqua painter OR I take a scrap piece of paper, color with pencils on the paper and pick up colors with aqua painters then color my image. This is a great way to blend the SU water color pencil colors to get just the right match! Hope this helps!
I love this technique. Using the powder, emboss your design on glossy paper and apply watercolor crayons with the aqua painter and it gives the nicest watercolor look. You can find the crayons at the conventions or stamps stores. What I got at the chain craft stores for a few dollars didn’t work.
You just rub the wet tip of the aqua painter onto the crayon, it doesn’t take much to color and they last forever. I’ve had mine a couple years and the tip isn’t even worn off yet. When you first start using them you may need to scrap the crayon a little to get to the color. I guess a coating gets over it and needs to wear off.
I LOVE my aqua painter!!!! Another way to use it is to fill it with floor wax and dip in your pearl ex and paint with it. You don't have to seal it either, because the floor wax takes care of that!

I do many of the things listed already, but my favorite is the re-inkers. They give such a bold color, but more depth than using a marker. I just love it so much that I have almost all the reinkers now!
