Question a new ?? stemming from "how do you support your habit"

So, I am wondering... those of you that sell your cards:

1. How much do you charge?
2. Do you always make an example of every card you make?
3. Do you advertise, or go to crafts shows or what?

just curious... I have a friend that sells her cards and I guess it started with word-of-mouth.... She's has a nice filing system and numbers every card she gives, so that if someone wants to order that card, she can look at the number, pull out the original and make it from that.

Hi!
I sell cards and I charge $2.00 per card. I know that seems low to some people, but that is about what you can get around here.

Every time I make a card, I make 6 - one for my friend and Demo who I trade cards with, one for my sample books and 4 to sell or give away. My sample books are done by putting cards, 2 to a page, opened out, in plastic page protectors. That way the customer can see the front and back, and then when they turn the page over, they can see the inside, and kinda part way fold it over for the whole effect. I also number each card, so when some one wants to order a card, they just order by that number. I have a simple order blank that says what card number and how many of that number.

I keep an inventory of cards in Ikea boxes, with divider tabs with corresponding numbers. Those cards and envelopes are in the clear cello bags SU sells to keep them clean from dust or whatever. I have the boxes on a shelf in my basement workroom. The system works great for me. Some of my customers (I have about 10, word of mouth) order as much as $80 at a time! They just come to my house and go through my books. If someone orders 12 or more at a time, they get a free stamped bag with tissue, or a cello bag with the cards and a stamped topper for the bag.

I also make stamped boxes like the 2-4-6-8 ones -- in fact just made 80 for a person who wanted them for a nursing home party. I charged 60 each for those (small ones, half sheet of CS)

SORRY if this is WAAAAAY more than you wanted to know! I have explained my system to many people and I tried to cover what they asked me. If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me.

Sue

Sue-thanks for the details! And great gallery!

I too try and sell cards but I'm not as organized as you! I scan my cards and keep them on the computer in case someone tells me what they saw/want. I take mine to the teacher's lounge at the school and have a can next to it so they can drop in the money...I only charge $1. Sigh...not worth it I know but I don't do lots of layers and hardly any embellishments that I would have to buy. (My sizzix hardware punch helps now!) It was hard to get it in there at first because they thought I was "soliciting" but I told them this was a "favor" to the teachers -- that if they needed a quick card they could just get it there and at that price!! I've sold pretty many this way and only "lost" one card so far...plus it got me a "special order" at graduation time.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the information... I can't think of any questions at this time, but if I do, I'll get with you!
