Default Using clear stamps and stazon?

Hi-

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but has anyone ever used clear stamps with stazon? If you HAVE, what do you use to clean them? I have a stamp cleaner for the rubber that works quite well? If you don't use stazon, whats a good black ink? I have a versafine black.

Also, once the stamps get stained, its OK to use them with other colors..right?..it won't ruin the other ink pads??

thanks

There is a whole long thread about this somewhere, I think.

Basically, they said that Stazon is not good to use if you want to watercolor your image. Also, they caution against using a solvent cleaner on acrylic, and recommend soap and water, which might not get the Stazon off.

Most of the posters swear by Versafine ink for clear acrylic stamps. I love it for clear stamps and also for detailed rubber images, like House Mouse. I love their black ink Onyx. It stamps beautifully and dries fast.

Hi there,
I have heard that any solvent ink and/or cleaner can 'eat away' at the acrylic. Therefore, dye based ink with acrylic stamps is the way to go!
I hope this helps

I was told it was ok to use staz-on (and cleaner) with my CTMH stamps...just not to get the cleaner on the acrylic block itself.

And no, even if it stains your stamp (it will) it won't damage your other ink pads as long as you've cleaned it.

Is Stampin Mist considered a solvent?

I haven't heard/read anything about StazOn not being usable on acrylic stamps, not to say it isn't true... just haven't heard/read about it myself.

That being said I've used StazOn on my acrylics quite a bit lately and haven't had a problem with it. I actually like using it on the acrylics more than rubber. With the acrylics I don't even have to use cleaner to clean them. I have been able to just stamp off all the ink and rub them a bit on my Stampin' Scrub with out any cleaner. I always get all the StazOn ink of my stamps immediatly after using them and I don't know if there will be a long term effect since I just started using StazOn a couple weeks ago. But so far, so good.

Stampin Mist is not a solvent. Most clear stamps will turn permanently black as soon as you use a permanent black ink. They will never get clean == trust me I've tried!!. But, the good news is that you can stamp with them even on light color ink. The black just dries permanently on the stamp. Actually makes them easier to place on the paper.

CTMH says it is ok to use solvent inks on our stamps, I do and have had no problems. But you should *not* use the cleaner on the blocks, it can crack them. I use staz-on cleaner to clean or if it's really tough I use a Magic Eraser. You can also stamp your stamp in a lighter color before stamping with the staz-on and it cuts down on the staining.

This does work really well.

As stated before, do not use stazon cleaner on the block itself it could cause cracking in the block (though I have done it with no adverse effects - but in the long run it will damage them).
