I have done the same thing and requested an invite. I got an email that said they were going to be sending an email, but have never received it.

It's always much faster (instantaneous) to get a friend to send you an invitation rather than wait for Pinterest to send you one. I'm always happy to send one if someone wants one, and I know there are lots of others here who will do it as well.
