Default I love SU stamps, but......

Hi All,
I love the SU stamps!! But recently I found the website inkyantics. com and, their stamps, while not in the same quantity (nor sets?) as SU's, were really, really cute! They are so quirky with lots of 'odd people' stamps that you buy separately. Has anyone used these stamps before??

Why doesn't SU supply quirky/oddball "single" stamps for when you just need that one picture of a crazy-old-lady-in-her-garden stamp.

Yes, I have some from inky antics. The quality is great.
You might send your question about single stamps directly to Stampin' Up. There are a lot of us who would like that option too.

I love SU too, but sometimes I just want one stamp from a set. I don't want to pay $20 for one stamp. I wish that for certain sets they would give the option to buy just one.

I think all of us have wanted just one stamp out of a set before. I think SU stands by the stamps in a set because that is one of their signatures. I buy single stamps when something catchs my eye. My favorites are Outline Stamps, they are so different from SU's style and I am just drawn to them.

I like Outlines too, but I've never seen examples in the gallery. Is it allowed?

The biggest reason why SU stamps come in sets is b/c of cost - it is WAAAAYYY cheaper to buy a set of 10 stamps than it is to buy 10 different stamps. That's just the way SU does it and from the looks of things they will never change that (and if they do there will be a ton of ppl complaining b/c the cost of a stamp individually will be more and why didn't they stick to keeping them in sets??)

That said - I love Inky Antics. I have several of their stamps. I would prolly own more but it's expensive to buy just one stamp for almost $10 -I can blow $100 on IA stamps and barely get anything - and then I have to pay shipping and then taxes and customs fees (I'm in Canada) when the order arrives.

Even then I won't stop ordering from IA but I'll be sticking w/ SU b/c their stuff is way cheaper when all things are considered!

I have bought lots of other non SU stamps...but, I never end up using them. I see them and say to myself that they are perfect for *something*....but they just sit there in the drawer...So, after much debate, I am finally letting them go! I listed them on ebay.

Yes, I love Inky Antics. I have bought them from their website, from eBay (oh my gosh, I got the best deal last year) and from stamp shows. I especially love the animals though. If you sign up for their e-mails, you find out about sales. Last month, $50 purchases had free shipping. I missed out because I had to place my SU "birthday party" order. I am not a demonstrator. I love SU best, and a very significant portion of my budgeted stamp money goes there, but there are other great companies too. Inky Antics, Darcies (check out their new stuff), G-Rated Stamps, Whippersnapper Designs and many more. It's all about fun, right? - Gay Howe

EXACTLY!! I hate trying to find stamps that coordinate with a single stamp I purchased on a whim. I stopped buying random stamps because of this very reason. I like having options of mixing and matching and knowing that everything coordinates.

I like the idea of sets even if I don't use all the stamps. I do buy single stamps from other companies, but they are expensive. I was looking at two Penny Black stamps yesterday....a wheelbarrow and a bunch of geraniums that were meant to be used together, and they would have cost $22.00 plus shipping! You can get a whole set from SU! for that price! I have to really fall in love with an individual stamp before I'll buy it.

I agree with Lisa, Marilyn, and Happy Heart. I used to be a Hero Arts and Magenta Rubber stamps fan. I would buy a stamp, get home and then realize that I needed two or three MORE stamps to really use the one stamp well. It would blow my budget. This is why I like stamps in sets, and I became a SU! demo so I could enjoy the stamps without pulling money out of the family budget for them.

I can still see your desire for a single stamp--I just do not share that desire.

there are a bunch of Inky Antics samples in the gallery...

http:////www.splitcoaststampers.com/...x=0&y=0&limit=

their stamps are really high quality and they have way cute images. I am die hard SU! but do venture to the dark side of other stamp companies once in awhile!

I hafta admit: being a lazy stamper, sets are fantastic for speed and ease, due to already being well-coordinated to work together, UKWIM?

But, that said, there are also many images that I really gravitate towards because they ARE indeed single images, and are so versatile, that they work well with everything else, UKWIM?

Do I have a preference? Well, no. I just buy it if I really *love* it, and *know* I'll use it, whichever way it comes.

I only buy single stamps once in a blue moon... the occasional scripture verse or a saying that SU doesn't have. But I hardly EVER use them... it's so much easier to just grab a case full of beautifully coordinated stamps, already mounted and ready to go, and sit down and create! Every year I go through and pull out singletons that I haven't used even once, and sell 'em off. No sense taking up space when I could get a whole coordinating set for just a couple more dollars than a single stamp!

I too sometimes wish I could buy a single stamp from a set. Perfect recent example is the "Wishing You" set in the Holiday Mini -- I only wanted the sentiment, the square things didn't do anything for me. I put it low on my wish list. THEN I started to see all the great uses for this WHOLE set in the gallery and I ordered it. This has happened every time I've been attracted to a single stamp in a set. However, the day it doesn't I won't pay for a full set for a single stamp unless the single stamp is worth the price. LIke others, I too shop in stamp stores and make single purchases, but I try to only purchase things for which I have a specfic project in mind -- so I know I'll use them!

Buy what you love ... that's my new motto. I'm a SU Demonstator (mostly hobby) and for three years wouldn't buy anything outside of SU! but I, like you, have discovered Inky Antics and several others that I just LOVE! I'm die hard with SU! Cardstock and Ink but for embellishments and rubbah I'll just go with what I really like. My SU! stuff works well with everything else I purchase so it's ALL good! Have fun! That's what it's all about!!

I love the fact that you SU, TAC and CTMH stamps come in sets.

Most of my work is done, when making a card.
Because the stamp are in sets. they already work together as a team.

Single stamps are nice but not for the price that you pay for them.
I like getting more bangs for my buck.

I agree that with most sets it is helpful and wonderful to have them together. In Full Bloom and All About U are examples of this.
But some sets the stamps work independently. Some sets that I wish you could buy independently are: Tag Time, Year Round Fun, Figures of Speech, Tags & More... I could go on but I think you get the idea.

I also think they should charge considerably more for individual stamps. Like with Tag Time, it is $27 for 14 stamps that is about $2 a stamp. Maybe the separate stamps could be $3.50 or $4.00, which is about what you'd pay at Michael's.
But it is all personal preference. No right or wrong answers. We all like what we like and I know I have bought 2 individual stamps from SU on ebay....
