Default Corner Punch Question

I have a question about the corner punches. I have linked a picture of a card I just finished. I used a corner punch but I had a problem with the corners where the card folds. Is there a way to use the corner punch without cutting the fold to punch it? I actually cut the front off and then glued it back on a full card once I put it together. There has to be an easier way. Please help!

I'd love to hear if anyone has a trick for this. I always cut a piece of cardstock (different color from my base) 1/4" smaller than my cardfront (so 5 1/4" x 4") and use the corner punch on that - then mount it on the base. I always like a lot of layering anyway. Does that make sense?

Default punch

NO! So many people have asked this question and the way the punch is designed you would have to split the fold of the card down bout 1 3/16? then take the bottom plastic guide off (did you know it comes off?) the punch and then proceed to punch through the cardstock. You would need to turn the punch upside down and look to see that the corner of the cardstock is lining up correctly in the punch design, that’s why the guide is designed into the punch.

So no you can’t get a punch in just the card front unless the fold is cut. The punch would have to open up like some styles of staplers do and that wouldn’t work because it needs the bottom thickness to force the metal cutter through to make the cuts. I hope this makes sense to you. I’ve tried this split fold and I thought it looked tacky, it looks better to use a second layer and have it punched on each corner like Jami explained. The second layer doesn’t have to be cardstock, I use just paper to keep the card from getting to thick.

If you punched all four corners with it folded and then put a different color paper than the cardstock inside to show through the back punched design it would give the back of the card more interest. That’s the only other solution I can think of. I haven’t done it.

Thanks for that info! I will have to try that. I knew there had to be a better way. When I did the card I posted it just seemed like a waste of paper. I did know the guide came off but the punch still had the V to line it up with the corner. I like the idea of just punching and then adding another color on the inside, why didn't I think of that?
