I am new to SU. I got my order from stampinup where I was the hostess in the hostess club and I got a lot of stuff. I normally scrapbook but I have really gotten into cards lately.
Well I have mounted all my stamp sets around 10 or so sets and now I am wondering will I ever think of something to use all these stamps on.
I feel a little overwhelmed... anyone else feel like this.
I have thought about becoming a demo for the discount..
just enjoy!!!! check the gallery when you need ideas. You can even look at cards made with a specific stamp set. Relax, enjoy your new toys...all will be well!
I have found it helpful to make a list of all the card giving occasions coming up in my life in the next few months. That provides me with some direction when I look at all the stuff and say what now?!!

I know the same feeling--getting so excited and ordering a lot of new sets and then ACK! when they finally arrive.
Maybe you should pick out one of the stamp sets and work on a few cards using just that set? Visit the gallery on here for that specific set for some ideas. Laura (aka scrapnextras) does a weekend sketch set using different sketches to make four similar cards. Here are all her posts about them. Just think, if you only use one set a weekend, you have 2 1/2 months of "new" stuff to try!
If you're looking for a "reason" to make some cards, try the cards for a cause challenges.
Take a deep breath and just jump in! You will be addicted in no time and will find yourself making cards for all sorts of reasons (or none at all!)
ps-where in Alabama are you? Because I will gladly come over and ink up some of those stamps for you.
i would just do some challenges, and each challenge you play use a new stamp set. Once I use a new set even once, i feel inspired to use it more because the ideas start flowing... OR, they don't and I find that the set just doesn't work for me....

Perfectly normal, happens to me every time I receive a big box of new stuff. I think it comes from the fact that I want to try it all and I don't know where to begin. I like the advice to try out the challenges. It's a great way to get started and it gives you a starting point for your creation, which in turn helps not feeling so lost.
Once you've gotten started, you'll love using your new supplies! And for more challenges, check out the ones that will be posted next Saturday during the Virtual Stamping Night. SCS organizes those one in a while and they're FUN! They always push me to try out new stuff, which is why I love them.
Enjoy!

If you are thinking about becoming a demo now is the time. The kit is discounted, their is a 3 time payment plan, and the free any price set from the catty. But, that ends March 31st.
yep! I get overwhelmed but only for a short time. Pick one set to start with and focus on that set only. Make a card for the most recent birthday you know that is coming up. enjoy your new goodies!
You can also use those stamps on your scrapbook pages too!
You can make up bunches of cards with the different stamp sets to have on hand for various occasions, or to make up bundles of cards to give away as gifts...many people will appreciate a packet of hand-made cards wrapped in ribbon with some stamps and a nice pen!
I love to look through the catalog for ideas for the stamps I have, and then I try them, usually with adaptations. I also try to make 2 of each card, so I have one to send now and one to send later.

Yes, I've just begun scrapbooking and using my stamps. I've gone to a SU scrapbooking workshop twice and made eight pages each time. This has really given me the inspiration to branch out into scrapbooking and also using stamps on my pages. I've really wanted to get more use out of my stamps and other investment and this has been a good choice for me....good luck
Here's a way to try all of them out and start a good practice at the same time. Stamp each set on a piece of paper to use in a binder for your index. I wish I had done that when I was new to stamping instead of waiting until I had tons of stamps to do. Look up Momis Mama's gallery. She has an example of her binder there.

for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.
(borrowed from the quirkey card sayings thread).
1) Choose 1 stamp set.
2) look in the Splitcoast gallery for ideas
3) Choose 2-3 colors of cardstock to work with (and a few ribbons that match)
4) Make 2 or 4 cards of each layout, change the sentiments for the occasions you need.
I just did this last weekend.
Stamp sets: Embrace Life, and a greeting set
Cardstock: soft sky, blue bayou, porcelain prints DSP, white
Inks: Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, Black
Ribbon: blue bayou/soft sky double stitched.
I made a bunch of Get well, Sympathy and Thinking of You. Next month I will choose some things to make Mother's Day and feminine birthday cards.
I find this works really well, not constantly digging through paper, inks, stamp sets (I don't have a craft room). It requires a little planning, but I get alot done in the end. Enjoy!
I second the motion to try some challenges. My favorite ones are the sketch challenges. They make stamping so easy. Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed, I try just stamping something simple, like stickers or bookmarks for my sons class.
Congrats on all of your goodies!! I agree with the others, it's easiest if you jump right in. Don't think too much about it--you can't do anything wrong--and have some fun!
I do not scrapbook but think of your stamps as your embellishments and where you might place a sticker or a border, try using your stamps instead. If you are wanting to branch out into cards, some of the best inspiration can be from looking up that set in the gallery and see how others have used it. Best of luck to you!
