Default I finally got it done

Ohhhh. if your haven't already, hurry and get your cardstock in hanging files and get it organized. It's wonderful! It's so nice. I only spent about $15.00 at staples for the folders & plastic storage bin. I went cheap all the way, but it's so nice to see what you have at a glance and know what your need to order!

Wheee!

Have a great day!

I agree!! This was one of the first things I did, but I think it's fun to put things in hanging files! All those years of being a secretary!

Kim, how many plastic storage boxes did you need to store your paper. I have all of my paper in these cardboard magazine files sitting on my table/workspace. If I can do anything to make more room I would like to and also to be more organized.

Default I'm so lucky!

My hubby is in the process of builing me a Stamp Room in our Basement. He built 2 paper shelves - each with 24 slots for 12x 12 paper. I have a slot for all 48 SU colors! I will keep my US White,Vanilla and specialty papers in files.
He's so great - and we may eventually have a dining room again!

I have mine in hanging folders right next to my desk! It only cost me the $6.00 for the plastic crate. Got it on clearnce a while back. I got all of my hanging folder FREE! The place my stepmom works went out of business she she took a ton of them. She figured she put in 20 plus years and no servence package!! So, she took what ever she wanted! She figured she at least deserved that.

KIMEBOSS~ Are you storing 12x12 paper or 8 1/2 x 11?
I am looking for a system that works for both!

I don't remember where I saw it, wasn't here, but somewhere I read to never store your card stock in hanging folders. Or maybe I saw it when Shellie was on DIY. My guess is the logic behind that would be the chance of the paper warping.

I'll play devil's advocate here -- I didn't think storing paper on edge was the "proper" thing to do. If it's okay, I have 2 file drawers just begging for paper. :>)

Hi Sandy,
Haha just ONE for now! hahha I don't have alot of cardstock do I?! Or should I say enough?! hehe oh magazine files would work too, but I wanted to keep mine in plastic totes just to keep the dust out & the cat from making a bed on it. The tote is clear about the size of a file drawer in length.
One of these days I'll be organized...just don't anyone hold thier breath it might be awhile! lol!

Hi JJ,
Ummm no just the 81/2 x 11, I don't have a clue what to do with the 12 x 12. I don't have much of it but would still like to keep it safe. (I hate those little bumped crinkled corners)

Anyone have any suggestions with the 12x12?

Catie,
Each family of cardstock? Shucks no... I don't have that much, one is plenty for me! (I hope)

Yeah Big Sky country is Montana, our air is much cleaner then Texas. The sky is HUGE and blue and goes on forever. You can see the Milky Way in the night sky and you feel like you can almost reach up and touch it! It's just beautiful.

Cropper Hopper has come out with some vertical file holders just like the magazine ones. You can get 2 sizes. One is about 1/2 inch wide and the other is about 3" wide. They work wonderful for 12x12 papers.

I have 4 of them on my desk, 2 for cardstock, and 2 for patterned paper and one small one for all the specialty papers.

You can even get dividers for them so you can seperate the colors.

Here is the link:

Large paper holder: http://www.cropperhopper.com/store/d...?item_no=CH259

Small paper pouch:
http://www.cropperhopper.com/store/d...p?item_no=CNPP

Paper dividers:
http://www.cropperhopper.com/store/d...p?item_no=CN3D

Pages in progress pouches - very cool if you are a scrapbooker:
https://www.cropperhopper.com/store/...?item_no=CH215

I absolutley love mine!!! I can see it all, and no more digging through the HUGE stack of papers that used to sit on my desk. Got very frustrating. I knew I had the paper, but sometimes it was easier to just go to the store to buy a new sheet then look for it in that 12"+ high stack!!!!

Now...... if I can only organize all those photos!!!

Kim, do you want to come help me organize? Sounds like a great deal to me! I would love to have my paper organized!

Charmed, thanks for the links to the cropper hopper vertical paper storage thingies. I'll have to spend some time looking at those cool products. I recently bought a photo organizer box from Creative Memories....I think I'll be really pleased with it once I start using it.

I also use plastic bins for my paper. They fit nicely under my craft table and they have wheels to roll around. I got them on sale for like $4-5 each at Office Depot. They are about the length of a file cabinet. I have 2 color families in each plus some of the nuetrals in each. I am running out of room in mine already and I only have a few sheets of about half of the colors. I love the way that it works though. I put a file folder inside of the hanging folder to put my scraps in.

Not to brag, but to address the concern of hanging paper...
I've had mine in the hanging files in a 'toteable' crate for nearly 2 years. I can't see any reason why not to store it like this... But it does seem that I've heard that somewhere too.
However, my paper does fill the crate snuggly so maybe if you had too much room it might curl down into the file.
Just recently, (finally) I put the labels that you can attach to the hanging files on, with the colours written (in their own pens, no less haha) and store them 2 or 3 colours to a file depending on the popularity of the colour (ie. how many sheets I normally hav) and I group the files in their family groups. If you had a pkg of each colour I'd think you might need 2 boxes.
(I have an expandable file folder that I have labelled the same that holds all my scraps. So at least I'm familiar with where in the files the colours might be )

Lisa Bearnson from Creating Keepsakes magazine actually recommends storing on edge as opposed to flat. The paper has less chance of bending the edges as you lift to get a color from the bottom.

I also have a hanging file system in a crate. Mine are stored pretty tightly together, so I don't think warping is too possible. I just don't have to much room to expand!

I have a long rubbermaid type container from Walmart that is long and holds regular file folders. It has a lid and all. It holds all 48 colors at about a half a package of each color. I can't fit whole packages of each in though. I also have white, vanilla, naturals ivory, kraft and glossy white in there. It's awesome cause it holds so much. I have stored mine on "edge" like that for over a year and never had a single problem with it. I keep the full sheets in the folders and scraps in front of the full sheets in the same folder and I punched rectangles with the handheld rectangle punch of each color and used that at the top with the name written next to it for finding colors. It's really great and the container was less than $10 ( I can't remember how much, but it couldn't have been much) and then the folders.

I have 2 plastic storage things that I found at the local Hobby Lobby that hangs my 8.5x11 paper in folders. When I bought them, I thought I would never need more than 2, since at the time, I only bought CS from SU! in the multi-color family pack. Now, I'm buying by the full pack and have to expand. They come with a snap type lid with a handle in the lid. They also stack on top of eachother when the lid is on. I also put a quart size Ziplock in front of each hanging file folder to store all scraps, with the color written in Sharpie on it, so when I need paper, I go first to the Ziplock full of scraps.

I can see where if you hang your files and they are not snug, it could create a warp in the paper. It happens to me at work, until about July, when I start to get so stuffed with my files, I can't push another piece of paper in them!!! ~Pam

I got mine from Office Depot also. It's the 24" eldon Spacemaker. I can hold all 48 colors in one as long as all packages aren't totally full, so I have 2. One has the colors, one has the neutrals, specialties, tags, vellums, etc, and is still only 2/3 full. They both have a plastic cover to keep dust and pet hair out of it. I can pick it up to transport from room to room. I love it! works perfectly for me.

As far as storing on edge--I have cropper hopper (I think) plastic magazine box type things. That would be the technical name. The only problem I am having is my craft paper is curling. But in a weird way. The paper stands on the 8 1/2 side and the long sides are curling in to the middle. Other wise I love this way. I cut a piece of poster board and labeled each color. It divides them all and I can store 8 1/2 and 12".

I have my papre "on edge" in ahanginging files but in a closed filing cabinet b/c I was worried about fading. Sadly my 12x12 is in the plastic crates since I can;t fork over the $$ for the big filing cabinets.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves to organize!

I bought this Rubbermaid tote from either Wal-Mart or Staples. Its a little longer than Emily's (cause I have those too - I LOVE storage things!) and is on wheels with a hinged top. It slides right under my stamp table. I bought a hanging file insert and hanging folders. If you have noticed, I am extremely anal and even gave each color family a different color hanging file. If you put the hanging file rack in widthwise instead of lengthwise it would work for 12x12, which is why I bought it even though I don't use it for that. The lid has a good 4-5 inch clearance above the tops of the folders. I read about someone doing this on another website. I was worried about the paper bending, since the folders aren't high enough. But I've never had a problem with my 8 1/2x11 warping. Probably cause I go through my paper so fast!

I know they sell plastic boxes that will hold 12x12 at Wal-Mart. Its right with all the other plastic storage containers. Can you tell I spend way to much time in that aisle?

And on a slightly similar vein - my 4 yr old is inheriting my tendencies. His latest thing is to have me write our names on a post-it and then he labels all our things. My postman thought it was funny that our mailbox is labeled "mom". I guess I get way too many packages!

My 8 1/2 x 11 is in hanging folders...so far, so good...no warping.
I'd like to do something similar to store 12 x 12...Does anyone hang that? (I don't have it in the bin, as I can't put the lid on it. I like the lid to keep out dust.)

I have mine in those hanging file thingies, but I'm finding that the 12x12 is warping especially the ones in the shrink wrapped stuff. I just throw an old pillow case over the top of the 12x12 file cause the lid won't fit.

I have my 8-1/2 x 11 cardstock in hanging files in a dark blue bin. Every hanging file has it's official SU name, and (yes, I'm a nerd) it's all alphabetized! I've had the paper in there for about a year, and I guess there's so much of it that I've never had a problem with warping.

My 12 x 12 (I don't have all that much) is in a pocket of my crop storage unit.

I store my kids construction paper in the storage box with the hanging folders. I buy the big bulk pack of paper at BJ's. This is so much easier than keeping it on a shelf and the pile becoming a mess each time they want a piece of paper. There is plenty of room for coloring books, crayons, markers etc.

I have yet to store my cardstock the same way. I have everything I need...just haven't found the time. Could it be because I spend too much time on SCS?

Unfortunately it's 8 1/2 x 11. I haven't found anything great for 12 x 12. I don't have much, I scrap 8 1/2 x 11 so all I have is the dp and a simply scrappin kit that is larger. I have it all in a zippered scrapfolio right now. I have to get something else though. I looked all over at Walmart with a ruler in my hand measuring every container I could find and came up empty.
