I can't remember what to use

I used to be a BIG paper crafter (stamping, scrapbooking, cards). Then life got in the way, and I haven't done it for 10 yrs. Then, a few month ago, I started up again and am really enjoying it. Yesterday, I opened a large bin of stamps for the first time in a decade. I wanted to do some heat embossing, and after I got extra flecks that I didn't want, I remembered I used to have a little ..... looked like a little stuffed pin cushion pillow. You wipe the paper with this thing before you stamp, and then the embossing powder doesn't stick to it. I'd purchased this, but I also remember that people had made their own.
So my question: what is the thing called so I can buy one?
And two, what is the homemade way to do it?
Thanks so much...................Kay

I have one of these that came from a stamping up party a million years ago but, I am not positive what is inside of it maybe corn starch.

There are two options to purchase... one is a bag and one is a plastic container that has a brush at the top and you brush the powder on. Here are links:

I'm sure there are homemade options out there but I don't personally know of any. :)

DIY with cornstarch

(If you google 'DIY embossing buddy' there are several other tutorials/ideas too, but this seemed the easiest. personally, I think I'd just use a soft brush and a small container of cornstarch.)

ETA: welcome back to this mad hobby of ours! :)

I took a square of cotton fabric, put cornstarch in the middle, pulled up the four corners and tied it off with a twist tie. This has worked for me since 2006.

It's likely to be something called Fullers Earth. Corn starch works pretty well but if you do see Fullers Earth anywhere (often places that sell supplies for natural cosmetics will have it as it has lots of uses) it doesn't cost much and is extremely effective. I've found a bit of t-shirt fabric is a good thing to put it in.

Baby powder also works and it smells google.

EK Success Powder Tool: https://www.amazon.com/EK-Tools-54-0...ic+powder+tool

This is the one you often see in on-line card videos like Jennifer McGuire's. Lots of on-line shops sell it too.

If you made your own corn starch works; I'd just be cautious about using talc if you're youngish or if little kids would be using it.

Kay, welcome back to the fold!** I remember coming back from a hiatus myself a long time ago, and there were frustrating gaps in my memory about what to use when for me, too.

I have an extra embossing buddy kicking around. I'd be happy to gift it to you as a welcome back :) Send me your address in a pm and I'll pop it in the mail.

** OMG! "to the fold!" No pun intended, truly, lol!
