I make my own rectangular ones (2 per sheet, European equivalent of US A2), but I make a lot of square cards, and for those it's more cost-efficient for me to buy them pre cut and scored. I order them from the same supplier I get my full sheets from.
If you purchase pre-cuts, you're typically paying more than cutting & scoring for yourself. Depending on the brand of pre-cuts, such as the packs at the chain stores, it's a lightweight product and could have a rougher 'finish' than what we prefer as cardmakers. Not the case 100% of the time of course, but it's hard to open a package & check the quality unless you're opening a pack in a store. ;)
I cut my own too! Sometimes I want a different shape than 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. I also make my own envelopes so to buy pre-cut cards would be a waste of money.
I also make my own from this 110# cardstock that I buy at Sams. It is a real bargain, 250 sheets for $8.36! I use it for bases and also to stamp my images.
My house is actually split. I prefer to make my own as if I have a box of pre-cut I start to feel like I have to use them and I often shy off of trying something new where if I have to make my own I'm more likely to go an maybe try something different. I also have the envelope punch board and really want to start using it more but have so many pre-made envelopes I have trouble justifying making my own when I have a huge drawer of pre-made envelopes.
And where did those envelopes come from? My mom... She likes the precut ones. She buys them all the time.
I almost exclusively use the pre-cut 5 x 6.5" cards from Hobby Lobby. They come with envelopes and seem to be 40% off every other week. They are available in white, beige, kraft and black.

I sometimes use pre packaged cards, but usually I make my card bass. I like a top fold card sometimes and this way I get to choose not only the color, but what way it folds.
Sometimes the prepackaged ones are really such a great deal.
Make my own, too expensive to purchase card bases for me

I cut mine also, and use either PTI or Michael's 110# cardstock.

Is only 7.36 at our closest Sams. I only use it for layers now that I have found the Recollections 110lb and the Hobby Lobby Heavy Weight cardstock. These are my favorites for bases.
I always cut, score and fold my own card bases. I do 200 or more at a time when I do not feel like stamping. I have a drawer thats deep and I try to keep it full of bases in several colors.
I have a storage box of bases from clearbags.com. The texture is excellent. I also purchase white, ivory and kraft sets from multiple craft stores. Sometimes I will find a box of decorative notecards and envies, so those join the craft collection. I have also made my own bases, but since I have the stockpile of premade ones, they are not usually my go-to item. I hope to photograph some I made recently using the botanical leaf edge die. With double-sided bases, these cards need only a message and embellishment. Diane

Wow, Amber - Everything's cheaper in Vegas, right?

That's true! I love when a Hallmark/TJ Maxx/etc store does a clearance on stationary that I can boost stamping or with a small emboss to tailor for myself or friends. I have found plain Crains at TJs. Heat emboss and you have a nice set!
I do both, cut my own and use note cards that come with envies. With the note cards I try and find them at Goodwill/thrift stores.
I've gotten boxes of nice plain ones or a soft pattern on the front with matching solid color on the backs. These types of cards I use for kids birthday cards mostly. By the time I get my layers and embellishments pasted on, the cards are pretty solid! LOL!
I also use blank note cards that come with sets called "Create your own greeting cards". Find those at GW quite often.

When I first started all my card maker friends always made their own bases. So I did too. I prefer it now. I use a variety of color bases so it's easier to just pick the cardstock of choice and make my own.
I just purchased several boxes of cards at Michaels. I like that they are colored on the outside but are white inside -- they even had some textured ones. I think it was around $6.00 for 60 cards and envelopes so felt like that was a decent price.
I cut and score my own - especially now that I am mainly doing 6" x 5" sized cards. I really like the quality of Gina K C/S and just tried Neenah Premium C/S which is terrific, too!
