I recently returned from a mini vacation in Victoria BC and of course I needed to check out the nearest stamp store. I was disappointed because I really thought I would fine some wonderful french phrase stamps.
I do have to say that the owner of the stamp store was wonderful and I even learned a new technique while I was there. Does anyone know of an on-line location that I could purchase french stamps?
I don't know if you have the option, but I have purchased some SU sets in French instead of English. In the catalogue, they are shown as being available in French. Maybe it's just a Canadian thing?
Hello,
Victoria is not a French speaking area, you would have better luck in the province of Quebec, try the city of Montreal, it is about the size of Toronto.
Northern Ontario, the city of Sudbury is Frenchspeaking. Both places are bilingual so I am sure you could find an englishing speaking SU person to help.
Also is you have Scrapbooking magazines, check the back for stores listed in Canada, specificially the province of Quebec.
Bonne Chance!(Good Luck)

The SU! French stamps are only available in the Canadian catalogue and therefore only available in Canada. (And obviously through SU! France, too.) Magenta is a Canadian stamp company and they do make French stamps. See if your LSS will special order you some stamps.
only about 20% our population speak french (about 99% of them live in Quebec), so french stuff is not common unless you're in the french speaking province..

Jazzitobi is right. I live and hour and a half away from Victoria and you are hardpressed to find many French Canadians around this area ;) As recommended about you might have better luck ordering from a company in Eastern Canada

Yep, I live in Alberta - not many French speaking Canadians here either!!!!
Alluring Impressions has quite a lot of French phrases in the catalogue. This looks a bit weird because it's a page of Google results but it's how Alluring Impressions handle searches of their site so all the results are stamps in their catalogue: {French stamps at Alluring Impressions}.
I've bought a grab bag of UM rubber from them in the past and the quality is good. I happened to get a couple of French stamps in there which is how I know they do them!
I leave near a town with a large french speaking population, and there are no french stamps around here either. Magenta, or somewhere else IN the province of Quebec is the best place to look.
quebecer here. i live in montreal, and french stamps are a bit hard to find here too. you do need to have a look at magenta's catalogue. http://magentastyle.com/
there is also a LSS that makes their own clear stamps and quite a few are french. look under acrylic. http://www.bonnidee.com/
call them and find out what they have. their website isnt always up to date.
ding ding ding, we have a winner here. well i dont think 99% live in QC, there are quite a large population in new brunswick i believe, and some places out west. so maybe 90.
You should check out www.franticstamper.com Fran doesn't have a lot of French stamps although there are a few if you look under her own stamps, and she does also have some lovely French rub-ons you.

well okay, a SLIGHT exaggeration might have occured, but it's funny how americans think we all speak french as fluently as english.. i lived in the states for a couple of years, and whenever i said "I'm from Canada" they ALMOST always said, "OH wow! You speak french??" I always just responded with a laugh and said "NON." Actually the only thing i can say is "Je nes parle pa Francais" which means I don't speak french, IN FRENCH! hahaha

I apologize if I offended anyone in Canada. I certainly did not believe that everyone in Canada speaks french, only that I would have a better opportunity to find french phrase stamps! Apparently, that is not the case. However, many of the sites recommended by you kind ladies are wonderful.

LOL, i know it was funny.
the best is when the think we live in igloos or houses up on brick feet or that we are the 51st state. those crack me up more.

I know what you mean by igloos, I am actually from Alaska and use to constantly be questioned about this - "romantic idea" of Alaska and watching too much television.
Yes, definitely Magenta and Stamp Barn are the way to go.
A Stampin' Up demo from Canada might be able to get a catty to you.
Good luck Joanne.
I'm in Southern Ontario so I wouldn't be able to bring some over.....BUT.... a lot of SS's carry Magenta in the States.

I use to work in several of the cities just outside Detroit, and commuted from Windsor, Canada. I had several people ask me what it was like living in an Igloo. The amazing thing is Windsor is actually further SOUTH than Detroit. Most of the time Detroit receives MORE snow than we do.
I know exactly what you are talking about 1chrystal....I too live in Windsor and it's always fun correcting Americans when they blame us for the weather. I love saying...."well, considering Michigan is farther North than Windsor, you are to blame for the weather."
The other thing I always get as a Canadian is, everyone else thinks all Canadians know each other. Yes, I know approximately 34 Million people!! ;)
Oh, how I know what you all mean. We have been told that we speak such good English. Flattering to me as I was born in Holland and didn't learn English until I was 12 but not so funny for my husband.
One time in The Everglades we were asked if we were seniors. Yes, we are. Then we were offered the $10 National Park pass. I told them we cannot buy it as we are not from the US. She would not believe that. After all, we spoke just like they do. We showed our driver's license and she was so surprised.
Our signs on the road here in Ontario anyway are in English and French. I find this odd as in France, the stop signs do not say arret but Stop. Same in Spain. Also stop. But in Ontario, signs are bilingual.
Anyway, there are lots of French stamps as others have mentioned. Some are very pretty as well.

I know someone who went to college in Michigan (was born and raised in Canada) and she told her roommates that in the summer we have to have airconditioning on so that our igloos don't melt. They actually believed her.
