Default I am so upset!

I just got home from a crop and the shelf that I was using to hold my ribbon storage-- each holds 20 rolls of ribbon-- has fallen off the wall and at least rolls of ribbon puked 120 all over my floor. My family that was home thought they heard something-- HELLLOOOOOOO! It wasn't bad enough that it all fell down, but most of them unraveled part way. I need help!

I'm so sorry you came home to that disaster. I'd make my family clean it up as punishment for not checking on the noise they heard.

Awww, sweetie, I'm sorry. Could you put a pin in each one to hold all your ribbon in place so it doesn't happen again? Hugs!

Oh man!!!! Families!!! Of course this reminds me of something that happened when we moved into this house, in late 1997. Our master bedroom had a closet with one Looooooong rod across the length of the room. So he installed wire shelving - there was a board running around the closet so he attached it to that. Well, that board was not well attached. That night at midnight, there was this horrible rumbling - I was downstairs - I think DH thought it was an earthquake. The whole thing pulled from the wall. Thank God we hadn't put anything on the shelves yet, but clothes were hanging up. I ran upstairs and DH was standing there half awake with his mouth open.

Oh well, he fixed it over the next few days and it was okay in the end.

Sorry you have to wrap up all that ribbon! What a pain.
((hugs))

I'm so sorry for this tragedy has befallen you. Take your time relax and try to fix things slowly. That way by the time you realize all will be back to normal. Sorry I can't be of more help!!

Good luck

Ugh. What a pain. I'm glad no one got hurt. "Ribbon kills" -- ok, so not funny, but I'm trying to chirrup you....

Oh, so sorry for the mess. Look at the upside, though. This sounds like a great argument for getting a new storage system! And the family can't say peep about it. Lots of great ideas here on SCS.

I make a cut in one side of the cardboard and feed the last few inches of ribbon through it to keep it from unrolling. Such a pain to find a mess like that! At least you can still salvage it. Just read another thread where someone's cat threw up on about $100 worth of cardstock - Ugh!

I was up until about 12:30 picking it all up. I put a straight pin in them all and just set them aside until today. My husband was supposed to make me shelves for xmas of 05 but has since decided he isn't going to do it. It really makes me mad. So I was in a wierd way happy it happened because now maybe he will rethink that decision. The shelf that they were on the top shelf of the desk that has our computer on it. Fortunately my DS (9) and DD (6) were already in bed when it happened. I took some time today and reorganized my ribbon. I had just yesterday bought two of the new travel ribbon holders from Michaels so I put the ones I am most likely to take with me to crops in those and filled the others that they had been in before. Unfortunately I have had to move them to my table top which just takes up more space where I don't have it!

Check out this thread for a truly ingenious storage idea for ribbons on spools. Looks like something easy enough for your dh.

total bummer! I stamp at a computer desk and I put two trays in the keyboard shelf to put a lot of my small frequently used stuff. On Tuesday the shelf broke and everything was in a big pile, like everything small and all the misc stuff was mixed up, took me an hour to sort it all... what was worst is the drawer/shelf thing wasn't fixable so I had to come up with new storage. My space is small enough as it is so I ended up having to reorganize most my space and buy a new drawer system thing because what I had before didn't work now.... totally sucked... so I totally understand how you feel! Good luck, my new space is starting to grow on me and I'm starting to really like it now, so hopefully that happens for you too!

Talking

i have some antique sewing drawers that i added a dowel rod to to hold my ribbon and then i stacked them.

i've seen others do the same thing with an old drawer... you could have more than one dowel in a bigger drawer.

hope this helps.

happy stamping!

Ohhh, do I feel for you. Hopefully your DH will see how much work you put into cleaning it up and step up to the plate?? (or, just let him read this thread!).

I have been away for the day started walking upstairs to my craft room. My kitties had found my ribbon (on a big carousal ribbon storage unit) and decided to grab it and carry the ends around in their teeth all over upstairs. I had about 20 spools of ribbon (full ones mind you) totally unraveled between 4 bedrooms. THAT was quite the clean up chore! It was hilarious and I laugh about it now (wish I had taken a pix), but it wasn't funny at the time. Every once in awhile I find one spool that they have unraveled, but I TRY to remember to keep the craft room door closed at all times now.

So, yes, I feel your pain!

Sheila
