Talking Stamping Magazines

Hey Gals,

I'm thinking about subscribing to a stamping magazine, so I wanted to ask those of you with subscriptions to share what mag you get and if you like it. I don't do scrapbooking - I do cards and projects - so I'm looking for something geared toward that.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!

I get the Rubber Stamper and Papercrafts. I also got a few others, but have decided to let them go for various reasons. The two I still receive are good, all around card and crafting with paper magazines.

I love Papercrafts, it's the only one I get. My suggestion is to go to a bookstore and look thru all of them and see which one is your style.

Mags I tend to enjoy most, due to the high stamping and no scrapbooking content:

Take Ten by www.stampington.com (You can now subscribe to this, 4 issues annually, $60. Yes, spendy. But, I *really* like it for all the stamping)

Stamper's Sampler by www.stampington.com Emphasis on stamping.

Paper Works www.paperworksmagazine.com Provides a bit more balance between projects with stamping and projects featuring scrapbook materials.

Cardmaker www.cardmakermagazine.com Like Paper Works, but cards only, and always features matching envelopes with almost every card!

I quit subscribing over a year ago to RubberStamper, but have scanned copies on the newsstand and found them to be considerably disappointing, but probably due to my own taste in artwork????

Stamp It! (quarterly, off the rack only) by www.papercrafts.com is not bad--and it's a shame they don't offer it in a bi-monthly magazine; I think there would be a lot of folks interested?

PaperCrafts www.papercrafts.com primarily features use of scrapbook materials for paper crafting, with relatively minimal stamping, IMHO. However, many find they can easily adapt the ideas showcased to incorporate the use of stamping.

Several other magazines that include an emphasis on scrapbooking materials for card making are Cards by www.papertrends.com and Paper Trends itself, at the same site. Again, ideas can be adapted for stamping. However, these publications have a hefty price tag of $14.95 off the rack, but you can subscribe annually for considerably less than the newsstand price.

HTH, good luck. There are a LOT of magazines to choose from.

If you have one of those large bookstores (Barnes and Noble or Borders), you might want to cruise the craft magazine section.

I have found that your personal style in cards has lots to do with magazine preferences. Stampington has a variety of publications, and while you hear quite a bit about "Take Ten" in this forum, I also like "Inspirations", "Gallery" and "Workshop". Take Ten are beautiful and in theory, can be done relatively quickly. The other magazines feature more complex cards, or techniques that take some time.

Cardmaker, Stamp It!, and other Papercrafts publications are not as crammed with samples, but have larger illustrations. They have more of a "featured" card format. And a distinctive style, very different from the Stampington group.

There will be one that you will not be able to put down - that's the one to subscribe to.

I finally made it to Barnes & Noble yesterday, and bought a copy of Take Ten. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I think I'm going to be waving bye-bye to $60. What a fantastic resource!! Thanks for the tip, Julie!

If you want a mag with good techniques and tips I recommend VSN (vamp stamp news) it's a one person production so it's not in color and isn't super fancy but I love reading it. There are a couple of samples of articles on her website if you want to check it out.

This is a quarterly magazine that has over 300 projects in each one.

stampers sampler take ten,and they also have a couple others just for card making.lots of su samples in them.paper crafts magazine.you can submit your cards to stampington and if they are published you get a free copy of the magazine that will save you 15.00 each time you submit it and they publish it.It is worth a shot.I submitted 10 cards to 2 of thier magazines and I'm waiting to hear if they make it or not in thier next issues.if I do make it in that saves me about 20 dollars right there.
