Default Soot Stamping HELP!

I am getting ready to try colored soot stamping for the first time. I was wondering if anyone has used regular hair spray as the sealer instead of an actual acrylic sealer?

It will be pretty late when I get done with the stamping, and am too scared to go outside to seal them LOL!

It would work ok, but I often find that hairspray isn't as fine an aerosol, and I get drops or globs of it on my project. Maybe just spray it a few times first to make sure the nozzle is cleared first.

I take my projects to the garage to spray them. Not all the way outside in the dark. I set the item on a cardboard box or sometimes amid the recycled paper, give it a quick spray, then run back inside where it's warm.

That would work if our garage was attached! We live on an old farm, and the garage is about an 1/8th of a mile from the house... Needless to say we don't bother parking the cars in there LOL!

I actually started to spray it with the sealer, but that gave me big clumps... :( so I switched to hairspray. The hairspray isn't a very good sealer....

I'm going to try this again tomorrow when I'm not afraid of the dark LOL!

Thanks for the help!

It's GORGEOUS! Too bad about the hairspray...you'd think if it worked on chalk it would work on this. I guess I'm glad I just always use real sealer, lol! So glad you decided to wait so you can go outside....that stuff really can do a number on your lungs!

I've found that Tame aerosol hairspray works well for sealing things... plus it reminds me of going into the bathroom in high school and spraying my tall bangs. ;-)
