OK.. now that I look at a few things I am wondering about my picks for the starter kit. I thought about As Lovely as a Tree but I see this is the 4th catalog that it has been in. Also this is the 4th catalog that Sketch It has been in. Do you think they might be ready to retire these next year?? I would hate to get those 2 sets and they retire in July. I did notice that the All Year Cheer's have been in for 3 catalogs now too though :( Just need someone's take on it...
It's hard to say. Lovely as a tree is SO popular.
I was wondering, too, about the AYC sets with the "unveiling" of the Sincere Salutations set that they are sending out to demonstrators.
The only way you can know for sure is wait untill July!
I had the same thoughts Kar. It seems like right whenI am ready to break down and buy a set it retires the next catalog. As a new demo I can't afford to have alot of sets I cannot use either. I also love the sets you mentioned. I guess we take our chances and hope we sell alot of them in the 6 months we do have.

Let's not forget... the Winter Mini states which sets will be in future catalogs... no fair!
I didn't see that - just the wheel guide, ribbon, and vintage brads.
Part of the mystique of the minis IS that you don't know which sets will make it to the big book, so if a customer really likes a set, it is a good idea to 'get it while it's hot'
Loads of Love needs to be in there. That little truck can haul just about anything!
Someone, I forget who, once said that the mini catalog sets that have matching wheels have always made it into the IB&C. I have only been a demo for about 2 years, but I tested the theory and it was TRUE!
Interesting, very interesting!

As soon as I saw the Sincere Salutations set (WOW...LOVE it!) I thought it probably meant Bold Basic would retire. Just about the same size stamps, mostly the same greetings but a wonderful fresh, new look! Bold Basic has been in there forever...okay, I think it was in there when I joined a little over 5 years ago. I think some of the gretting sets stay in there for a little while longer.
I have been looking at some of the sets that have been around for a while, and there really seems to be no time limit on when they retire sets. Bold & Basic Greetings and Borders Mini has been in the main catalog since 1996 anyway, and they are still there (and I've never sold one of either of them, but obviously someone is). And yet last year they retired a lot of the newer sets that were my big sellers - no telling!!
I think they just like to keep us guessing and let's face it, at least in the mini catalogs, the fact that they may never come back in a main catalog does inspire us and our customers to buy the sets ...
I personally hope that the Collage Alphabet makes it to next years catalog - it's great and so much different from any of the other alphabets they currently have.
AYC is All Year Cheer... they have 3 sets... The new set SU is sending out goes to all the Demo's and those signing up in January too I guess So I will be getting one... yahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Yes! Sincere Salutations to ALL demos and also included in Starter Sets--woo hoo!!!! AYC= All Year Cheer. When I was at convention year before last, the "powers that be" stated that the sets that stay are pretty much a matter of most popular. I thought it was amazing, for instance, that Nice & Easy Notes was the #1 most popular set of all time! (I guess because it's so versatile; matter of fact that was my very first set I ever ordered before becoming a demo.) They keep track of exactly how many sets are sold of each; of course this is probably relatively speaking. In other words, if a set from a Mini were immensely popular in a short amount of time, it would make it into the new IB&C, though it may not have sold the *number* of sets as one from the main catty. Hope I'm making sense! Part of the fun is figuring it all out, though. You get sad to see favorites retire, yes; but when you get that new catty--WOWZA!--you get to feelin' better mighty quick!

Special in March???? What special in March? Should I hold out until March to sign or just sign in Jan and be thankful for my free set from the catalog and the Sincere Salutations set?
edee-
salutations was a gift sent to everyone that is a demo as a gift to make up for all the shipping trouble, etc. it will be in the new catty, that's how people are making cards with it already. it's just a perk to being a demo i guess. it will also be available when signing up to be a demo i think the first 3 months. maybe just jan, but i thought through mar. maybe not. hope that clears things up a little for you. it's a really great set! you'll be excited to have it when the new catty comes!

humph.. then where is petal prints? IT had a matching wheel.. and it is not in the catalog.. can you tell i am sad?????? it is the best set ever... and dumb-o me.. didnt get the wheel.. now i wish i had.
But Petal Prints was still available in the mini when the new catty came out.
I think it's pretty high percentage that it will make the 2005 - 2006 catty.
This is NOT an expert opinion, since I am not a demo. But IMHO I would go with some of the newer super popular sets to begin with and wait until the retired list comes out this spring (unless they are sets you really really want.). Sets like In Full Bloom, All Natural, Simply Circles are all first year in the catalog and will surely be around for several more years. I could go with "safe" bets. And they demo (and I'm sure will sell) extremely well! The everyday flexible phrases and wonderful words would be two fantastic words sets to have.
ya I changed my mind and will probably get the Everyday Flexible Phrases just because it might sell during SAB time because that alone almost gets you a free set!! I am going to hold off on sketch it, still get the Lovely as a Tree I think.
