How to get ink off hands
Anyone have any ideas on how to get SU ink off of hands? I just stained my 3 year old's hand blue. I wasn't thinking and used it to stamp his hand. Thanks!

A couple of good scrubs to get the surface ink off and then it will wear off in a day or two. I turned my daughter's hands bright pink last year. Sorry, I do not have any great suggestions to fully remove it. :>

Nail polish remover won't remove it completely, but it will lighten/fade it quite a bit.
|
I always have stains on my hands, usually is off after washing dinner dishes.
|
Try some lemon juice. Usually wet wipes with alcohol with take it off too.
|
Lather up hands with shampoo. Yes it really seems to take the ink off! I end up with ink all over my hands when I sponge stuff and this takes it right off.

rubbing alcohol works sometimes too. unless it's something like staz-on.....simple green has worked as well.

Go-Jo will work too.

Hand sanitzer will at least lighten the color (and usually gets lighter colors off). The sooner you use it the better the result. I've read lots of testimonials about shampoo and it does work for me - but only if I am also washing my hair. Using it as a soap is not any more effective than regular soap. I think your hair acts like the "scrubber pad" does for stamp cleaning, kwim?
And good-quality baby wipes allow you to scrub off a good amount of the ink without irritating the skin. All that said, my fingertips are usally pink, purple, green or yellow LOL! |
Another vote here for the waterless hand sanitizer...works for me...
|
I'm sure it is the alcohol in hand sanitizer that works. In Microbiology we always used rubbing alcohol to get the dye off our hands when were did slides.

I always keep baby whipes and have now started keeping Clorox CleanUP whipes close by whenever i stamp...if i whip my fingers soon enough it seems to take the ink off.
|
I keep alcohol swabs in my stamp bag for times like this

ETA: Of course, this should be done very carefully (and I usually use 2 swabs together for extra thickness/safety). |
Just leave it, it adds character.

Mr Clean eraser sponges work 100% on any color. They are white and look like a piece of dense foam--there are many brands.
|
I keep a spray bottle of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol beside my stampin' table with a roll of paper towels. AS SOON as I get ink on my hands, (dye based, Hybrid or Solvant based), I spray my hands with the alcohol, rub them together and dry them with the paper towels. Then, AFTER I finish stamping, I wash my hands with soap and water, dry and use lotion. This keeps my hands from drying out, and I don't walk around looking like I painted Easter Eggs that morning....
|
I just spray a little stampin' mist on my hand or fingers, work it in and wipe it off. Usually works pretty good.

I use Magic Eraser and Baby Shampoo. I think blue hands are cute. I bet your DS is loving it. He can pretend he's an X-men character. :)
|
Thank you all SO much!!! My son walked around with a blue hand for a day but I thought it was pretty cute! My son is a clean freak and was freaking out that his hand was blue! He must have stood at the sink for a good half hour trying to get it off himself lol! Thanks again for all of your suggestions! I knew I could count on my SCS ladies!

As much as I love the Mr. Clean Erasers, I'd caution against using it on a child's hands. If he's young, he might have a nibble and that could be dangerous.
That said, I keep Purell on my table. It works on cleaning surfaces, stamp positioner sheets, and sometimes even my hands. It also produces very cool effects if you use it on solvent inked textured papers. Shampooing hair works, as does doing the dishes. However, I always manage to color my hands before either a formal affair (tie dye dyes) or a family religious occasion (Glimmer Mists & Alcohol inks) and just attend wearing gloves or an outfit with pockets. |
I just recently somewhere, that olive oil and salt is supposed to take ink off.
|
should not use ANY clean erasers on skin-will cause skin burns!
|
I was one of the OP's who mentioned Magic Clean Erasers. All the other OP's are correct you should not use it on your child's hands or if you have sensitive skin. You can use it on the fingernails lightly. I should have clarified that better. I am sorry. I hope I didn't hurt any lil' ones. I don't mind ink on my hands but I freak out if it is on my nails. I am little OCD (Alot) so I actually use gloves on big stamping projects. :) When I get ink on my nails I use the magic clean eraser. It comes right off.

Try Windex...it works pretty good. You'd be surprised what windex can do in all kinds of situations.

Ink Removal
Use the cheapest hairspray you can find...cheaper the better. I was a k teacher and we used it to clean permanent marker off the kids, desks, carpet, whatever. Takes ink out of clothes also.

Somewhere on SCS awhile back someone posted there was a soap you could buy at Michael's that would take the ink off. Anyone know the name of that soap? I can't find the post.
|
Shampoo and Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser always work for me.
|
LOL
8 months past the OP ... and the answers are still so similar! ****a quick study in Sociology??**** |
I found the soap at Michael's, it is called Masters. My store had it on special and did not have any for me to try. Have any of you used this soap and did it work? Was it worth the money or should I just use shampoo?

Ranger Craft Scrubbie. It works like magic.
|
Waterless hand cleaner, hand sanitizer works like a charm!
|
I LOOOOOVE my Ranger scrubbie pad. It is gray and you add soap and just scrub your hands... It has no chemicals on it. It is like a pumice stone but softer and very light. I get everything off with it. It was 4 dollars and it has been going strong for months.
|
I don't know if this available over there, but a soap called Imperial Leather will remove ink from hands, even Staz-on, I've been told.

How to remove dye ink from hands
I used Formula 409 and a paper towel - a couple of times, then used Dawn to wash the 409 off. It worked very well on my skin, and took most of it off from under my nails.
|
My preference is the Ranger scrubbie, without a doubt. This is incredible and will remove just about anything, not just ink, and there is no need to use chemicals - I just use my regular hand soap with the scrubbie. It's a 'mechanical' cleaning along the lines of a very gentle pumice.
Of course it cannot clean what it cannot reach, i.e. under fingernails, but the rest will be spic n' span in a flash. |
