I have asked my DH to draw some cute animal images for me and I am so happy how the first two turned out, that I would love to turn them into stamps. But, since that involves a start-up cost, I was thinking about having a "digital stamp store". I saw other stamp companies offer digital stamps, but I am not sure if there is enough interest. So I am asking here.
Would you buy a digital image that can be colored? (I printed my images on my ink jet printer and had no problems with copic, prisma and SU markers, the ink did smear when I tested the SU markers with an aqua painter.
Definitely would consider it. Obviously if images were ones I liked, and depending on cost. The cards you have in your gallery that are from your husband's artwork looked fantastic!
I'm a rubbah girl! plus, I don't think my printer likes me that much! but if digi is all available and I love the image...I guess I have no other choice. But yeah, stamps will always be #1 for me.
There are A LOT of digital designers out there though. Tough competition. I saw some digital images, $3 for one image? WOW! When I can buy a whole digital kit with hundreds of stuff in it for $5.99.
For example Nancy Kubo: http://www.littledrea*****signs.com/...acturers_id=19
$3.99 and I get a few different images.
Prima sells her stuff too... same with Corina Design's (Prima also produces her non-digital stuff). She gives out freebies too every so often and if not, I can get a paper pack/kit for a great price.
If you have a die cut machine you can buy a stamp making kit... but it's not for selling... it won't look professional.
Anyhow, I see these onesie download images for a few bucks. I just think they're too much compare to what I can get from a digital scrapbook designer -- not catered to stampers only.
I voted stamp. I don't have a problem with digi, but for me stamping is part of the process.
I used to use a lot of clipart back in the days when most of my cards were computer-generated, and I do have a couple of digi downloads but on the whole I like to actually use the stamp and have a choice of inks and card. I know some of the card I stamp on won't go through the printer.
Digital stamps??? I didnt even know there was such a thing. I know about digital paper, not stamps. I think I might like that.
What sites have digital stamps???
I would if there were printers that could print water proof ink on watercolor paper so i could water color it. I've tried it, doesn't work, so I wouldn't buy.

That's my problem exactly! I would love to use digital images but they are too hard to color without smearing.
I voted no because I know that the ink that my printer uses would smear if I tried to use my odorless mineral spirits on any digital image (and I don't do much coloring without using OMS).
I LOVE digital images...love the I can resize them to my needs and use my printer to print the EXACT phrase I want....of course I also hybrid scrap too... I don't mind paying under $5 for a couple of images...it can make card-making go so much faster! (and a perfect impression each time too is a big bonus for me!) So a big YES from me, love the digital images!
I don't understand the difference between digital stamps and other graphic images. There are tons of free Public Domain "Digital" images online and you can buy hundreds on a cd for $10 from lots of sources (see Dover). I don't understand paying $1 for a single image.

Because you are purchasing THAT artist's style...you probably aren't going to find that EXACT image on Dover or the Free Clip Art lists...
Example...I can pay $8+ for a SINGLE STAMP from a particular artist (think Penny Black or Magnolia or House Mouse...or whoever you choose) or using my coupon at a Big Box Store I can pay about $7 for SEVERAL stamps from a company like Autumn Leaves, Inkadinkado, etc...while they may be SIMILAR images they are not EXACTLY the same... you are buying that artist's image...

perfect explanation!!
I like digital images as well - don't get me wrong - I still *prefer* stamps - but if there's an image that I really like - I'll get it - example - Squigglefly - they have some great stuff - I've got a couple in my gallery.
I'm a Copics user - and there is pigment ink in my printer, so I don't really have an issue with smearing - but can see how watercoloring could be troublesome...
I might not understand the word "digital images" correctly. The images I am talking about would be hand drawn by my DH and they would be purchased digitally. Not sure if "digital image" would be something created digitally. I am attaching one of the images he has drawn, actually a card I made with it. It is also in my gallery.
I am just playing with different ideas right now, this digital thing is just one of the things I have thought of. I am also looking into having them made into stamps, but right now he only has 3 images done, as he usually just draws superhero comic stuff, and I just asked him a week ago to draw some cute animals for me. (And I fell in love with what he made - so he is going to make more!!)
I hate it and I've tried it many times. The ink smears and getting quality hard card stock through any printer is difficult. It's just more convenient for me to stamp the image and get on with it.
I prefer to have a stamp in my hand. I can do lots of things with a stamp that I can't do with a digital image (e.g. resist techniques, masking...). I'm lucky enough to have a laser printer so I can get round the smearing problem if I want to watercolour but I'd still rather have the stamp.
Why not see if you can sell the designs to an existing stamp company? You don't have to produce stamps yourself in order for them to become real stampy stamps
I went and looked at your cards with the images in your gallery and I would encourage you to persue finding a way to get the images manufactured as red rubber unmounted stamps. (hehe, my favorite type of course!)
You might contact an online retailer who sells multiple lines of stamps and maybe you can get an agreement for a specific minimum amount before you pay out the cost of getting the first stamps made. That would get you started until you have enough to start your own store. I've seen many companies start online on their own with very few images and they seem to be flourishing.
I think you would have no problem selling them. Just post it on here so I will find them.

I need to clarify myself here as my online activity is being monitored. The word "hate" is pretty harsh, so I will change my statement to that digital download stamps are not a personal preference for me, i.e., I prefer not to use them as I, personally, have not had much luck with them. I hope that clears up any issues perceived to be negative against any stamp company that uses this method of delivery for some of their product(s). This is simply my personal preference and I was under the impression that my personal statements/beliefs/experiences are just that...personal.
Since I started out as a digital scrapbooker, I have combined both my huge collection of digital images with physical stamps in creating cards and scrapbook pages. My personal preference has developed into using actual stamps for the main image that is colored, although if I can get a hold of a laser printer, the digital images work fine with my Copic markers. I use a good quality matter photo paper to print them on. I do make extensive use of dogotal word art and poetry for the inside of cards as I can size them just right and print in any color I want so coloring after printing is not an issue.
Your images are cute, but I also prefer rubber stamps. I've tried printing out images and they smear for me as well. I also cannot run very thick cardstock through my printer. As others have said, you could talk to companies that currently pay different artists to design stamps for them. They may consider using your husband's artwork for stamps they manufacture. It is worth a try.
I love both the stamps AND the digital. I have many of both...hehehe!
And for the poster who said you can't use OMS on printed images, you most certainly can as I do so quite often. The only thing I've found you can't do well is print on glossy paper and color with watercolors...which, I dislike watercoloring so YAAAY for me! hehe Oh and also, you can't stickle the printed images. Mess...everywhere.

Here's my thing about digi images: I consider myself a stamper, and well, with digi-images... it's not stamping, KWIM? It's coloring. Of course, that's just my opinion, and I know others may hold differing views and I have no problem with that.

This card is adorable - I would definately buy digital as I do. You can check my blog I have sites on there in my links column that sell digital stamps that i buy from. Who doesn't love animals... I can use all mediums too but haven't been able to use watercolors as they smear. Copics and pencils/gamsol are good though, no smearing and i have a very cheap printer..
I like both for different reasons. Here are the pros of each:
Digital:
No shipping fees
Prompt delivery
Resize to my specifications
Can mix and match
Easy to store
Cost less money
Stamps:
Can stamp quickly on the fly
Less time consuming to paper piece
Less decision making (only comes in one size)
Can use different inks for different techniques
Embossing is a breeze
My suggestion is to start with the digi and see what happens. Start small and grow from there. Good luck!!!

the image is very cute, but I'm a stamper, now. Way back when before I became addicted to stamping, I used to make digital cards and I'm not interested in going back to digital. I love rubber, ink, shopping for rubber, etc. With that said, I wish you well in your business adventure.
I consider myself a stamper too! I, too, used to make digital cards way back in the late 80's ...very early 90's. Much more interesting having actual stamps to play with.
As Carole said above me...digital stamping is just colouring. It isn't stamping. And, it is very very limiting.
Anyone read the definition of stamping lately?..stamp...to impress a design on to something
As Stamphappy says....and I totally agree with...I love the rubber, the ink, all the wonderful techniques, the shopping etc etc that goes with stamping.
Have you considered submitting your designs as a guest designer to a stamp company? That is a thought!
one digital stamp is like more than one wood stamp because you can size them larger or smaller and flip them and even erase parts of them before you print them. You never have to pay shipping or drive to the store to buy them, and you save so much storage space in your craft room. Organizing images is much easier that with rubber stamps because you can put the same image in all the categories it may fall into. I have been able to color printed digital images with anything I can use on rubber stamped images. I heat set my ink first, and if I am going to water color I spray the image with a matte fixative first. I have tons of information on my blog about how to use digital images in card making.
squigglefly.com has free downloads for you to try if you want to have a go!
I really like rubber stamps and having the actual stamp in my hand, but I'm also a now kind of girl and love to have things right away! I am pretty much a thumbs up for both ways. Yes, digital images aren't really stamping but for me the end results are what matters and if I can find a really cute image digitally that I can't otherwise find in a rubber stamp and I can have it immediately...well then, I can't really say no to that.
Please let us know if you end up opening up a digital stamp store....!!! Good luck with the endeavor!
There has been so much buzz about digital stamping images in the last couple of months since this poll started, I wonder whether the results would be different now.
I know what you mean. With so many SCS members, it's hard to keep track. I'm not sure how long ago Ellie opened her store, but she even has a design team now.
