I bought a Brother PT1750 for a couple of reasons:
It accepts different width tapes
It prints on two lines and has several different font types and formatting (underline, italics, etc.)
The admin in our office gave away tapes because we'd switched machines (and those tapes can be expensive)
And Costco had it for around $35 - about $15 cheaper than the office stores.
I love my Dyno Letra Tag. It cost me about $30 at Walmart. I use it often for organization. Like I printed out labels for my stamp sets and placed one on each end. This way it does not matter which way I place my stamp set back on the shelf, I can easily read it.
Sis uses Letra Tag too... We have found (due to personal preferences) it easy to distinguish our stamps set. I use upper/lower letters and she uses upper only.
Example:
HEARTFELT THANKS - on a box would indicate it is hers
Heartfelt Thanks - on a box would indicate it is mine
Loved my machine so well, I have order one this year to use in my classroom too !
OOOhhhh - I was just over at my folks house downloading a CD to my Dad's computer, and I noticed he had a label maker. It was a Brother also - although I'm not sure which one it was. But I was playing around with it and it was a lot of fun. Very easy to use and did a lot of things. I think it was this one:
I got a Dymo LabelWriter 400 Turbo for Christmas and I LOVE IT!! It prints 55 labels per minute and it's thermal so you never need to put ink cartridges in it. It's great!!!
My husband bought me a label maker at Walmart - the Dymo LabelManager150. Walmart sells the label disks to go inside. They only carry clear/black letters and white/black letters. Frankly, I use the white/black letters only but I hear you can buy red, green or blue labels to insert at an office supply store.
This machine can print horizontal or vertically, it has about 7-8 different fonts, three different sizes of fonts, a typewriter keyboard AND mine can be plugged into an outlet OR use batteries (who needs to spend a fortune on batteries? I plug it in.).
I labeled all my stamp sets - you can actually see the names from a distance
I labeled all of my gladware containers (which is how I store my glitters and EPs so I don't have to get out the powder pal all the time - you just empty right where it's stored)
AND I labeled my inkpads (I have the old ones where the names were only on the bottoms and when stored in a caddy - you don't know what's what).
I completely agree with previous posters - it's like, why didn't I buy this thing any sooner????
I have the Dymo LetraTag, and I LOVE it! It can print both horizontal and vertical labels, several font sizes, bold, underlined, 2 lines, and more! I have had mine for 3 years, and I label lots of stuff with it--haven't gotten to the stamp sets, though. There are also a variety of tapes for it (paper, silver, "plastic", pearl are the ones I can come up with) depending on the use. I like the tape because it is sooooo easy to take off the backing (it's slit down the middle so you just gently fold the long edges toward each other and the paper backing splits apart and you just peel it off), and changing tapes is a piece of cake. Very good bargain for the money, even if it's not as fancy as the P-Touch, it does everything I need!

Just another thought. (Besides this site, I am addicted to Carol Duvall and the Scrapbooking Show on DIY.)
The other day some one demo'd an idea - for scrapbooks but am sure it would work for cards. The demo put a strip of cs through a label maker instead of tape - using cs that was colored on one side and white on the reverse - colored side up. After the label is printed, lightly sand so the white shows through - made subtle photo labels.
Dymo Letra tag in this house! I LOVE mine too... Works very well for me, just replaced the batteries for the first time and have had it since sometime last year. I love all the different features and the different tape colors that you can get too... Picked mine up at Wally World.
I have two Dymo Letra Tags... one that is lost somewhere my house and one to replace the lost one. You can get red, blue, metallic green, yellow, silver and a few other colors of tape I think. I love mine.
We have a Brother label maker - but you might want to check out the price of the refill labels before selecting the label maker - there is a wide range of prices.
I probably would have gone by price but the refills for that one were expensive!
I have a Brother too...I think they have since remodeled the version I have. I love it, easy to use, easy to get cartridges in and out to change colors, etc. The only drawback is that the cartridges are only sold at office supply stores and it would be nice to pick them up at a Target, etc.
That's the one I have as well. Found it for half price ($15) at the grand opening of a new Office Depot store. I love this gadget! I made labels for over 100 stamp sets in about 15 minutes!
