How do you "do" the edges?

When I see cool cards like this one:

How are they "doing" the edges that have ink on them? Is it with aquapainters, sponges, just using the ink pad?

(I know these examples are probably using different techniques, but ANY direction would be soooo appreciated!)

I love the effect and way these methods seem to tie the whole card together.

TIA!

It looks like most of them are DTP (direct to paper) technique. I just started sponging the edges of mine and I like that a little better. Somewhat softer than DTP. They are all really nice cards, aren't they?

I just pick up the card and drag it across the ink pad towards me at a slat. If I want more ink on the card I just repeat the process until I'm satisfied.

I use a sponge to color the edges.

Rox71--I like your idea too.

I guess I just have to practice more with the DTP technique--it just nevers seem to look the way I want it to! I should be bold!

On the ones that are torn, I take a marker and use the fat end on the marker and run the marker on its side at a slight angle - gives a nice effect.

I think it looks nicer when I use a sponge on the edges

Ok, I tried the marker thing

I like this look, although it is a little strong for some of my ideas. Since I only have two stamp pads (and the markers) I guess my choices are limited!!

Thanks everyone, for your suggestions and Ideas!!
